Most ECNL clubs it's 3 practices/week, 2 games/weekend. With away games they pair up so that you get in two games in the same location that weekend. With GDA it's 4:1 so you may travel a very long way and it's also possible your kid hardly plays or even doesn't play at all (substitution rules are much more restrictive for DA). A college schedule is very intense, much like HS, so in that regard ECNL more closely mimics the game intensity of college. DA contends two games a week is too much and that the training 4 days a week is better. Each side has its pros and cons

But as another said there's a lot to consider and the most important thing is the quality of the coaching at whatever clubs you're considering. If the training isn't good then it doesn't matter how many days a week you practice. Where she fits on the roster matters too - bench warmers don't get much better no matter the league. Then there's the travel, costs, her interest in playing HS etc. Also, GDA is teetering around here. Personally I'd go ECNL for now and see where GDA shakes out. If she's a good player she'll find a good home

ECNL will be losing MANY players:
-GDA changing to have two separate age group teams at 2003 & 2004 instead of combined u16/u17 like this and previous years.
-GDA changing to allow high school play. Biggest reason girls/parents/clubs chose ECNL over GDA

ECNL needs to counter and graduation year is the only ace in the hole they have that GDA can’t compete with.

GDA doesnt have enough talent with composite age groups .... the teams will be way worse when you have to fill in twice as many kids!!

I dont bash the GDA. it is a soccer league like ECNL and the rest. they are what they are. why do you always come on here pretending that an over promoted youth soccer league is anything so special instead of telling the truth?

None of them are great. Some coaches and players and teams are excellent across different leagues. but the league structures stink.

Read. Comparing the boys funded MLS academies to the girls GDA pay to play deal is apples to oranges.

How many players are clamoring to get a spot on the MLS academy team - thousands.

Now go to your average GDA tryout and then report back.

i think we are at very different points of the same discussion. Obviously they are different. one is at least an attempt to align the person who can profit from development - teh MLS team, with the cost of creating it - the player

the girls COULD have a similar structure, but they dont now because the person who profits is the player/parent via education/scholarship and they are pretty clueless.

Other countries do - France, England, Netherlands, Mexico, Spain - and they have far better development platforms than the USA now for elite talent.

until you take the assessment of talent away from people that have no accountability to it, we will continue to look for needles in haystacks.

Look at our girls youth teams. the people selecting have zero accountability and the results over time speak for themselves.

What I have learned in my business where I am working with many people with strong opinions, is that you should never go to a social media site where people are discussing your field. If you are an expert at something, you can not spend a moment of time listening to the anonymous rants of people who know little about your field

The people you are talking about MAY be experts in player development BUT its not how they get paid. A bad player pays the same as a good one. They get paid by doing what the MAJORITY want.

At free to play clubs the best talent gets picked. No one is turned down because they can't afford it. That greatly broadens the player pool because everyone wants to play for free AND to train with a professional club. At pay to play clubs the ones who can afford it are the ones that show up at tryouts. Sure clubs have a few scholarships but very few. Parents are still on the hook for travel most of the time also. It locks out a lot of kids. There are plenty of stories about kids commuting 90+ minutes each way to train with Red Bulls or NYCFC. The only time that happens with most pay to play clubs is when there's a stay at home parent or they can afford a driver.

At funded clubs - much better chance the most talented players can play there as they are less likely to be excluded because of the costs.

At pay to play clubs - obviously the pool of player there is much smaller and must have the disposable income available to cover the costs.
