ECNL changing back to school year?

I’m hearing ECNL is talking about a possible switch up from Birth year to some type of birth year/school year hybrid?

kids will have the option to play graduation year U16-U19.
U13-15 would be Birth year with allocated spots for players who fall under the trapped player category to play full time.

has anyone heard anything regarding a change at all?

There is a US soccer survey on the topic going around. Hope we can correct a lot of wrongs that the birth year system created for girls.

I don’t see the difference. I went through the change years ago and our team lost and gain players. All we did was displace the complaining. I actually think it’s better now sociologically speaking because instead of having a team primarily all in the same grade, you typically had two grades represented. Different grades have different dialogues, older grades often belittled their teammates based on their grade.

wouldn't this create an incentive to hold kids back for school? also, don't different states have different cutoffs - for example - NYC has a 12/31 cutoff for school

Does it matter? Colleges recruit by grad year not by birthdate.

What do eighth graders do in the fall if the 9th graders are playing school ball.
