What is wrong with the Marist coach letting her husband coach the team while she sits on the sideline and does nothing? Especially when her husband is a horrible coach. This is so unprofessional – where is Marist admin?

I was at a game recently and I could not believe how fat that guy got. Man that he put on a lot of weight. And he’s a coach?

Agree. Total clown show. It’s college so presumably parents are not complaining and definitely not parents of players not seeing the field. Very bad situation. Feel bad for the players recruited there, college goes quickly and this is not a situation most would willingly walk into.

No change she stays beyond this year. They have a huge roster littered with club players from a club they both draw paychecks from. If your kid is looking at this program, you should run very far. This place is putting the Captial D back in Dysfunctional. Far cry from the past coaching staff and shame on the Marist administration for allowing this situation. Volunteer coaches should be ordering team meals and dealing with equipment not running a team.

There are a few other schools in the NE that put in unqualified coaches and performances are quite poor. Then if you have a school or AD that doesn't really care much about performance - which happens at quite a few schools in lower conferences - then mediocre coaches can keep their jobs for a long time
In the case of Marist, they have female Head Coach and an Asst Coach and neither actually coach the team. It's the volunteer coach (not paid by Marist) that is coaching the team. Is this really what the AD hired?

They should count their blessings. There is hardly any D1 level kids there. At best they are NESCAC starters. It’s just the way it is there.

Marist hired a new female coach and also recruited an assistant from another MAAC school. Neither coach the team, the team is coached by the spouse of the "supposed head coach" and he's not even an employee of the college. Regardless of your opinion on the talent level of the players it is not a good situation for that school or the program.

None of these kids were turning down offers from ACC schools. No one is disputing that. Kids playing at mid major D1 programs and solid D3 programs were all excellent high school players and most have great club pedigree as well. I'm pretty sure that is not is what is being discussed here.

Not the poster you replied to but since you replied and seemingly have some insights, please enlighten us as to what a college coach does?
im following this thread as my kid “has/had” an interest in the school.
im an employer myself. So riddle me this…. I take a chance on young woman and offer her a job that is maybe a bit over her head. Should I expect that her husband comes as part of the package? What other services does he provide? Maybe some Car washes?
so are you saying that all college coaches have input from their spouse? How about Alabama football? Does Nick Saban’s wife make the line up?
Do you understand how utterly stupid this situation is?

Now the person involved that started this post definitely has a kid on the team that has not seen any field time. If you understand anything about soccer, it’s the game starts at 11 happy kids and everybody else is super pissed off including the parents. At Marist there’s over 30 kids on the roster. So now you have 2/3 of the team ,and 2/3 of the people watching the game hating the coach. Quit your crying and transfer.
As parent are you ok with a volunteer coach running the program? The prior coach had an equally large roster with basically the same numbers of players not seeing action and you didn't see this general misery in the program. Husband needs to go which was the original point of the program.
The victory here is that this issue gets out there and new recruits at least understand the dynamics.
PS. My kids plays, I didn't start the thread and she still hates the experience. The ones that have been around know how things can run so presumably your kid is a freshman.

Collegiate soccer is buyer beware, those rosters are published and everyone should be eyes wide open going into the situation. I agree that players that don't see the field should probably consider a transfer if it is important to them.
