                  That status just means that the money needs to be paid out for expenses such as salaries, trips, gifts etc.

                  So, if you save money by cutting out 1-2 planned tournaments, money has to be paid out to the coach at the end of the year as a “bonus”. If your coach saves money by using a free field instead of an expensive indoor space - also a bonus.

                      Actually, a 501(c)(3) can generate profit. It does not need to pay expenses just to break even. Generally, a well run not for profit organization will generate revenue, pay necessary expenses and use the excess for its exempt purpose such as in the case of a soccer club to develop young players. It should not be using the remainder to pay excess benefits to private owners or related individuals.
