No need to do ODP if ECNL.

Yes I get that is not as popular as in the past but it's much more accessible than ECNL. The only reason I see ODP is not convenient for ECNL is because if ODP is successful then ECNL's claim to be the defacto path to the NT is not a strong claim.

That’s true. Extra training is all it is. Not much else. I’ve never thought it was worth it.

Why was PSA mentioned in the list of ECNL and GAL clubs?

Second, I didn't see a huge number of girls from the top clubs, and I am not sure that the training you will see at ODP is any better than playing with a top team from a top club. Think PDA, PSA, CSA, STA...
This is a very good opportunity for the top talent of smaller and town clubs to be challenged at ODP which they might not get at there current club. It is understandable that many people want to make ODP. It is also different kids which is sometimes fun for kids.
There are other alternatives to get good training outside of your club even if you don't make ODP. RDS especially for girls is great to be challenged an play with predominantly boys. PDA coaches run sessions at Top Corner. DTS has elite classes(sometimes hit or miss but willing to work with parent to get them into right level). Private or small group sessions with a handful of kids at or above talent level.
While I did see a ton of "ball hogging"(or whatever you feel good calling it), this is not surprising as the first 3-4 years of soccer training seems to be all about 1v1. Also 2/3 to 3/4 of girls said they were CM or Offense at the sessions I was at. Many of top clubs look and cherish these players: the quick, aggressive with great speed on the ball. The thought often is they can teach things like defense and passing but you can't teach speed and aggression. A very few kids have it all from what I saw. It really all depends what the ODP coaches are looking for. Your kid could be very good and not get selected for a whole host of reasons. It won't be the end of the world as you will have 1300 to do all the other alternatives to help them get better, or better yet stick the money in a 529
Just a quirky observation but isn't it funny how they put a pop up goal in the center of two posts and call it a goal when it goes in the pop up. The pop up of course is where the GK is usually at...not surprising that kids often find the GK when they take shots during games
