Right now in gotsoccer the PSA SDFC 2007 girls team is #1 in the country. How is that possible? This is a serious question. I remember that last fall they were not even in EDP, did not participate in the state cup. I also recall they were ranked somewhere in the 30’s. How did they jump to number 1 in the country while playing zero soccer since last fall?

gs points are all based on tournaments played. You get more points when:

1/ a team was established long ago (could change names etc. some teams keep using the same name to keep the points even all former players are gone)

2/ a team keeps going to higher level tournaments and loses most games except one. You will still earn lots of points (e.g. MF Mercer 07G on MAPS CUP) or get points even if you lose all games.

US Youth Soccer Ranking is a better source. They use goal differences from games. IMO.

Not sure what rankings you are looking at but PSA SDFC 2007 are not even ranked in the top ten of NJ let alone the country

The 07 team that's highly ranked is TSF Academy.

I am the OP. Yesterday the rankings showed PSA SDFC as #1 in the country. Today those same ranking show TSF as #1 in the country, BUT when you click on the TSF team the link opens up to PSA SDFC with all the stats showing them as #1 in the country. So maybe the link is broken on TSF and that is why it is opening the PSA SDFC team? Try it yourself. Here is the link: https://home.gotsoccer.com/rankings/...r=Girls&age=13

Looks like the #1 team in the country had a rough game today at the PDA fall kickoff

Actually the PSA 2007 team in the PDA fall kickoff is not the #1 team in the country. The PSA team in the fall kickoff is the PSA National team. The PSA National team is advertised as its top tier USYS NL team made up of its all star top players from all 3 of its divisions. The PSA National team is ranked 33 in the state and 328 in the country. Does it not make sense that the PSA National team which is supposed to be PSAs all stars from all divisions is ranked 328 in the US while one of its regional teams (PSA SDFC) is ranked #1 in the US? This is exactly why gotsoccer points and standings mean nothing. Its all based on number of tournaments that a team is in. Its obvious that the PSA National team is light years ahead and better than that PSA SDFC team “ranked” #1 in the country. PSA SDFC is only ranked higher than the PSA National team because they have a longer tournament history than the PSA National team and that longer tournament history is what gotsoccer rewards. Head to head, the PSA National team would absolutely destroy the PSA SDFC regional team.

Very Correct assessment for example the Real 06 team piles up gotsoccer points but would get destroyed if they played a team like pda wolves. Some teams just care about gotsoccer points and nothing else.

ECNL and the former GDA don’t use gotsoccer, so none of the regular season games in either of those leagues were ever even logged (not sure if the new GA will use them). Some of the best clubs/teams in the country are basically not even included in the system. Only when they play in tournaments outside of their league (which the old GDA didn’t even allow). Gotsoccer rankings are for overzealous ulittle parents.

I'm pretty sure the coach from TSF left TSF and is now at PSA SDFC and he likely took the whole team that was ranked #1 with him - and with GotSoccer if over 50% of the roster is the same and you change clubs, your points go with you. Hence the #1 ranking for PSA SDFC, just another club buying a top team and whatever other players from TSF that were loyal to the coach.

                          Two different clubs?

                          Two separate clubs?

PFC is a scam now. 3K a year for the HS teams. It used to be a good Club with reasonable prices but in the last five years, it is all about numbers and money. As a parent, I would not consider any of these Clubs. Most PFC teams play in MidNJ and some EDP competitions. I believe most Princeton residents don’t go to PFC. Still some good coaching, but the “good coaches” are ready to retire or are trying to leave the Club. It is just a matter of time. Also, consider PFC doesn’t own any fields. PFC uses community parks around Princeton area.
