    Youth soccer age change

The vote on November 22nd, (graduation year vs birth year), is just a formality. It’s already been discussed and decided. It will change back to graduation year in club soccer. We are buying time to allow club organizations an opportunity to organize their player pool process for the 2025-26 season.”

Thank goodness. I wanted my D to find a new team anyway. I guess she will look a year younger since she’s a trapper player.

Interesting how they are going to do that when most states don't have the same cutoff for school as depending on what part of the country you are in they could go back as early as last week of July or 1st week of Aug and as late as 1st week in Nov. It was never graduation year, it was Aug 1 to July 31st which in our section of the country means kids born after Aug 1st that are born before mid Oct would basically be playing down. If they strictly made it class year, which would mean birth year doesn't matter, then you would see a HUGE issue with reclassing especially over the next few years.

Honestly, this has to be the worst timing they could have with the entire college system being revamped for scouting and scholarships. I don't envy those in the 7th-9th grade right now as it is going to be a nightmare. So glad my kid is almost done all this. One age change was enough.

Some idiot who keeps repeating it on different forums. Why would ECNL care about U8 and they were the first organization pushing for the change.

Someone told me that ECNL put out a statement that the age change has already been decided and the voting is just a formality. Looks like change is happening. I’m happy.

Change only impacting 8u to 12u for 2 years. Then in 4 years all age groups move to Aug-Jul.

they are finalizing details but role out won’t occur until 2026 so it coincides with World Cup excitement where there should be a bump in player registrations.

That doesnt make any sense because if they are making this change, you would start by solving for any of the rising trapped 8th graders (fall 2011s) and down, not U12.

If it's like last time, from a US Soccer perspective there may be later dates for the completion of the change, but leagues may adopt the change earlier (which most did). So US Soccer could say 2026-27 season, but most leagues would still opt to change for 2025-26 season.
