    Playing without a club

Can you get a player card released and not be assigned to a specific club, just guest play for different teams?

Also, how hard would it be to get recruited by D1 colleges going this route assuming the kids was talented enough to play at that level?

In theory yes. In practice, why would other clubs let you play for them as a guest? What will be the training and payment arrangement? How will the other clubs' (plural) parents, coaches, players feel about it? I doubt this will work in practice unless you have some special relationship with those other teams.

Technically yes, but it depends where you want to guest play. Different states have different rules about guest playing out of town and some clubs have a requirement that you are carded with a state association (which you often can't do with a club affiliation). It seems like a lot of work to be honest but I'm sure it could be done.

Kid is considering taking a break from high level club but still wants to play some games.

I don’t think it’s possible. Players have to be affiliated with a club to be carded. That also acts as players insurance. I don’t think the state gives out individual 1 off cards to players. What you can do is go to local town based club. Talk to the club execs. Tell them what you want to do. Will probably have to pay some type of registration fee (carding and insurance). Then they can give you your player pass and you can go guest play with whoever you want. But the next issue is. If you are NJYS carded. You can’t guest with any ECNL or ECNL RL teams that are all US Club carded and vice versa.

It can be done but requires a good relationship with a club or coach because ultimately they have to card you. My kid does this, multi sport player that is focusing on one sport but loves the game. The card is like $20. You won't find an RL or NL or GA club to do this but a USYS for sure you might pay a few bucks more...some clubs need players to guest especially in HS so it can work. Kid probably needs to be decent as well

If the kid already needs a break from club, D1 soccer is not gonna be for her. And not having a club team because of burn-out will be a red flag to college coaches at any level.
