    NJ.com "Who is the best...."

By now I'm sure that everyone has seen the NJ.com "who is the best senior/junior/sophomore/freshman" polls. I just wanted to point out to the parents that think this poll is legit or has some merit, it's a popularity contest, nothing more. I've recently seen a parent post that their daughter was voted "top senior" by nj.com, and that they were thanking all the kids coaches, teammates, and relatives that they could, saying it was such a honor to be selected. You guys need to stop. No one of importance selected your kid as top anything. You and your friends voting did. This is the problem with youth sports in this area. We a giving everyone participating medals for no reason. When your kid is selected by the USYNT as a top player, then brag all you want. When your kid is selected as top kid because you and your wife and the neighbors voted on a stupid poll, I'd be embarrassed to brag about it at all. Stop making something out of nothing. You are probably the same parents that brag that your kid made ODP.

So the parents can only be proud if they get selected as a top 22 player nationally for their age group? Sounds a tad unreasonable

While I agree with what you’re saying, I still think you should let those parents have their moment. It’s ok.

You realize they are bragging that the parents, grandparents and friends voted on a poll and won. What actual achievement has this kid had? This is the problem, kids that are average at best are lead to beleive they are better than other players. I knew a parent whose kid played rec soccer and made odp. The parent told me that her kid was as good, if not better, than DS from PDA Blue. When asked what is she basing that on, and she said that her kid was selected to the odp regional camp, was voted top freshman (once again, a redees poll) and that her kids team won a tournament at Tuckahoe last year. I saw the kid play. She was no where near the talent of any kid on PDA Blue or Matchfit, nevermind DS. Parents are delusional when it comes to how good their kid actually is.

Who cares. Let them dream. Reality comes at some point.

I am guessing your kid wasn't voted because your family and friends voted for someone else
