    Junior College Playing Opportunities

Junior College appears to be a viable option to get a degree and play at a reasonable cost. Some programs even offer aid and support. As my kids think of playing in college, Junior College doesn’t seem to resonate. Couldn’t a player go to JC first and then transfer? It looks like they can get plenty of playing time the first two years instead of just sitting on the bench at bigger programs. I’m seeking opinions from individuals that have gone through a Junior College and played afterwards at a 4 year school.

Seems reasonable and no reason to mortgage your life if that’s an issue.

I can’t see how the level of competition at a junior college game prepares you for playing at a 4 year school. Have you watched any games, the skill level between a JC and 4 year school is vastly different.

There are many famous pro athletes from all sports that started at JUCO. I know its football but Aaron Rodgers, Tyreek Hil, Alvin Kamara, to name a few. There are many reason kids will go to JUCO. For some its a great option

Great player, poor student, eyes on still playing after college. That's who are at JuCos.

Not the same for soccer. Baseball and football are different stories.

Also, don't forget about life after college. It's not that easy to transfer from JUCO to 4 yr college and keep all of the credits, especially if transferring to a private school or a school out of state. The education rigor may be different as well. Not saying it won't work, I have a friend who went to a community college first and then to Rutgers (not an athlete). However, it is not as simple as some who have not done may have you believe.

I didn't post the initial point, but to add some context, most D1 baseball programs have a "friendly" JUCO affiliate where they park players. For example, Indian River was a pipeline for a lot of years for Florida State baseball
