If home to tournament is about 3 hours, do you prefer commuting or booking hotels?

The tournament organizer will assign a hotel for each team and all players have to book the hotel through a specific travel agency, isn't it?

Not if the team is commutable.

Stay to Play Rules: Stay-to-Play means that in order to participate in the tournament or event, teams and athletes must stay in one of the official hotels set up by the official housing company.

I believe there is leeway as long as x% stay in the designated hotel. We always had a few who would stay elsewhere. Sorry, but if I have a relative a few minutes from a field you can't physically force me to spend money no matter how you may try.

I've also seen a team say "F-U" because the options weren't good and pick their own. Not common, but I've seen it.

No. They just yell at the club, but rarely happens. Most of these tournaments have a hard enough time just managing the schedules let alone reconciling who stays where

depends on where you are going. Showcases have been known to fine clubs $1k for not having enough hotel rooms booked. And since they are run by the leagues, you either pay or drop out of the league. But these tend to be high end, and clubs have more than 1 team there, so they usually get enough

I understand the reasoning about this. The showcases go out and get a bunch of hotels to save rooms for them, and if they do not get enough people the hotels get mad and will not block out rooms in the future
