More common than you think. Club soccer is a business. Promoting Division 1 to future customers is a better sell than D3 or any other division. This unfortunately is common but they have a business to run too.

They have B & C teams even in the countries we all look to with so much envy.
Exactly. The positive spin is that this is offering a broader range of rec-level sports opportunities for kids with different levels of interest. Whether that's at the 3rd, 4th and 5th team of a big club or just the regular team of a smaller club doesn't matter. If anything, there may be efficiency gains from having a larger club.

But yes, that is no excuse for 'trash' coaching. The product should still be good quality, even if the level of intensity/performance expectations are different.

Quite the opposite actually. Very few "can play in that league" and that's why a second rate team with poor coaching is still highly desired as you get a ton of exposure that you can't get from teams in other leagues. Sure there are GA and even ECRL teams better than White, but those GA teams don't face Blue and Penn Fusion twice a year plus go to ECNL showcases.

Exposure…..newsflash, no one knows who you are. Damn ego gets in the way of reality.
