    Parents yelling

PARENTS: If you are yelling at a referee during a youth sporting event, it is time to self-reflect.

    It is not normal behavior.

Remember, it is your child’s experience, not yours.

Just cheer and support the team.

Right on parents. What about a 9U Girls SJEB coach? Can she scream at a ref? A 16 year old ref? Is that ok?

I’m so neutral here. But ppl yell at referees from youth sports to professional sports. It just happens. I’m not necessarily defending it but it is what it is. Get over it. Ppl do it. I’m kinda sick and tired of ppl complaining about it. Mind you I don’t do it and wouldn’t buy it just is what it is.

Such a childish response. You're so bitter.

After watching my kid at PDA, refs deserve all the hate they get. Hold them accountable. Just like that one ref from Brazil. Don't care if they're a teenager. Be better.

It is getting so hard to find refs and coaches. And most point to unruly parents as the issue. You must fit the description lol

AGREED! Refs should ref the game and stay quiet. Make the call and keep it moving. Whether it’s 7yr olds or the World Cup. Parents should be under control but if they aren’t why must u get your panties in a bunch! You do you. Everyone lives with their decisions and choices and actions. Refs also need to be better. Parents be better but pls stop the whinning

We should just go to computers, robots and AI to ref games. It would be more accurate, no one to yell at and cheaper in the long run.

So no social sanctioning? That's the whole point of having norms, otherwise psychopathic lunatics take advantage and rob everyone blind.

Obviously it's a spectrum and sometimes parents get heated in fun-loving ways. But the refs are only human, they're not professional, the actual stakes for these matches are very small, even in the tournaments. More often than not, it's parents with their own personal psychological issues manifesting themselves onto their kids' activity.

Who are you to say what the stakes are?? Some people in general are more intense or passionate than others. There isn’t even an excuse for foul language but parents yelling screaming and supporting their children is nothing new. It happens at every age and in every professional stadium around the world. Did u watch Sunday night???? Adults rushing the gate for the Argentina/Colombia game? Again not something I would do but the point is it happens. Just is what it is . The investment parents make or the emotional connection is not for you or I to judge. Refs are there to ref the game keep their comments to themselves and go home quick when it’s over. If you don’t wanna get yelled out go do something else. Competition gets heated!

Refs are there to keep the kids safe and ensure kids play the game within a set of rules. You crazy screaming parents decrease the safety of all the kids by making the environment hectic. Also you pay a lot of money for your kid to get coached yet you scream all game so your kid can't even hear the coach.
