    Ecnl/ga

Is the ECNL better competition than the GA?

    #2
Yes. The answer is yes. You will get more competitive week to week games in ECNL than you will in GA.

but GA is a great league as well. 3+ years and they have accomplished a lot. It seems that GA is still growing and ECNL is done growing for now.

I just feel (in excel terms)
      =AVG(ECNL) = AVG(GA)
      but
      =MAX(ECNL)>MAX(GA)
      and
      =MIN(ECNL)<MIN(GA)
      and
      =STDEV(ECNL)>STDEV(GA)
and this is just for our area. In other parts of the country things vary
BUT you really do not get to know because everyone is afraid to play any one else in the other league

The top of ECNL is well beyond the top of GA, but the broad middle of ECNL and the top half of GA is probably similar, the bottom of both can be awful.

In general yes ECNL > GA in terms of quality of competition, players and roster depth.

However at the local level a GA club may be stronger than a local ECNL. Coaching matters too, along with fit. Good GA players get recruited so worry less about the patch and what happens nationwide

ECNL is better. Just ask any ECNL parent.

growing is not necessarily a good thing when talking about sports. growth will add to the leagues revenue but also potentially dilute the talent

This is been an issue since this all starting cropping up. How to walk that fine line between saturation and over-saturation is the biggest challenge. We want, we should want, the ability for every kid to play at the appropriate level no matter where they live. But, it's America, and a pretty friggin' big country. So, we scale it back to trying to get to X% of players within a "reasonable" driving distance. Shorten that distance, X goes up, quality goes down due to over-saturation. Widen that distance, X goes down, quality may go up (with some isolated instances of deserving players cut out).

It isn't easy to balance those two competing priorities.

Let me fix this for you:

                          - Top level ECNL teams are level above top level GA teams (we are talking about PDA Blue, PF, Bethesda, MFA vs Ukies, Beadling SC, TSJ FC Virginia, SJEB, Real FC )

                          - Mid level ECNL are better than mid level GA teams and equal with the top level GA teams (Delco, Pipeline, PDA South vs Keystone, Baltimore Armor, Celtics, Skyline)

                          - Low level again ECNL is better than GA (PDA White, FC Bucks, MD United vs Sporting AC, PA Classics or Century)
The lower level GA tams are equal to the mid level ECNL RL teams. The top ECNL RL teams will smoke any low level GA teams.

                          Over all ECNL >>>>>GA

You can apply the same logic to the GA Northeast Conference.

                              Sounds about right.
