    Odp

I know there has been several posts about ODP and it’s debatable if it’s worth it or not. My daughter will be in high school next year. I don’t really want to, it understand, why I’m paying a regular tuition for half a year of play and college IDs as a freshman. Would it make sense to walk away from club and do ODP. She’d play high school and ODP so plenty of playing time, less money, and still get college exposure

From what I have heard, it’s not what it used to be. Once ECNL came about, ODP was not as elite as it used to be before academies and elite leagues existed. So I am not sure how well recruitiing is for colleges.

I suffered thru watching ODP this weekend, not worth it. PA seems to be the worst, NJ and NY seem ok, but not the best players in any area. Save your money and spend on training, stick with ECNL for visibility. GA is a joke too.

How can it be worth it when there are multiple ODP teams in an age group. It’s not the way it used to be where the top players of 18 made the team with 2 alternates. It’s a money grab. Especially their trip overseas. Great experience yes. Exposure for soccer no. Good luck.

If you are not sending money to these mega clubs where you travel hours each way for single games, have limited playing time and don’t have 3 “good” letters on your jersey, how can it be worth it? Just ask the trainers from these clubs that bash ODP here because it takes money from them. No, it has nothing to do with the Olympics, and no, not all of the best players are there, but all of the best players are not at a single ECNL game and a bunch of ECRL girls we know didn’t make ODP. It is a fine program if you are not already traveling too much to be on a low level team, but it is fun for the girls to get in a little travel, meet girls from different teams and play at a higher level than they would have in their club team.

not sure at the high school level, but worth it at U14 and below.

As an ODP parent of a player who continued to play through HS I would say DO NOT sacrifice club for ODP. If your kid has outgrown their club then look for a better club but do not drop club for ODP. You will not get anywhere near the exposure as you would with even a D3 EDP team and college coaches honestly don't care as much about ODP. ODP is a filler or addition for a soccer resume not something you want highlighted as pretty much all they did. Now if she is good but isn't looking to play college soccer then sure you can drop club.

ODP is fine for some states and some others not so much. PA isnt run that well but certainly some talented girls playing who play ECNL, RL and GA in both PA and NJ. People will trash anything...Every situation is different. No need for people who want to bash every league or format to beat there chest about how great ECNL is. We know. Also spending alot of money for ECNL and RL and same money come high school years while paying the same as if you were playing a full season, which you are not.

Only way to make the Olympic team though. The dream is alive.
