North Brunswick Soccer Club and Professional Coaches

Posting partially to learn more about what happened -- partially to bring awareness of what can happen. Towns bringing in "professional" coaches to support even the rec program has become more common. Maybe this works in some cases - we have wonderful trainers at my club (not NBSC) - but I don't think we should ever shut out parent volunteers for travel soccer town teams and especially never at the rec level. I work with a friend who lives in North Brunswick and since we both love soccer, we often talk about the differences between our club programs. There was a fight at NBSC during intown games involving a "professional" coach and a parent volunteer and while this was the first time violence occurred here -- it's not the first time things have escalated due to "professional" coaches exerting their power and being unwilling to accept different ways of doing things and thinking their position automatically means they know best.

Do you hier a plumber and then stand over him telling him what to do? If you don't like the way professionals work don't hire professionals. Can you imagine a professional thinking the know better than a parent? Parents get all upset because they think they know what they are talking about, I've watched soccer all my life and I still learned a lot by watching my daughter in training. It's not the same to watch professionals and compare them with 10 year olds. Give the coach the benefit of the doubt and assume he knows better than you, if he turns out to be a terrible coach find a different coach rinse and repeat.

Why would you hire someone with professional experience and then try to tell them what to do?

At the rec level you don't need to hire a plumber to change the toilet paper
