Fair assessment. Apparently 70% of major D1 rosters is made up of ECNL players. That’s impressive.

70% from where? Does CA and TX make up for 50 of the 70? Would be interesting to break down the 70.

Kind of hard to make up most of any roster when GA is all of 2 yrs old. Need to look at freshman and sophomores to get a better look inside those numbers then need to take into account what clubs are in that area as most schools draw from a small area with maybe a few outside exceptions. You should also look at which of those freshman and sophomores actually get playing time and start.

There is a reason why ECNL has not posted an update to their college numbers the last few years. They have been losing ground and they do not want to showcase it.

CA, TX, FL make up huge numbers as they are hotbeds of youth soccer development. Not surprised at the ECNL dominance as most of the really good GA clubs bolted to ECNL post GDA blowing up. So kind of old news that most power 5 players come from ECNL, it’s to be expected.

Only because there are more clubs in ECNL. The proportion of Power 5 recruits mirrors the proportion of clubs in each league.

GA = Old GDA. Just a reboot.

GA and USYS are pretty even steven. If GDA was still around it might have surpassed ECNL by now. Guess we’ll never know. Hope the GA continues to grow and expand establishing itself as a clear #2 option.

Ya, no....GDA was a hot mess bastard stepchild that US Soccer wished it could abort. They got their wish when MLS pulled out of BDA to form MLS Next which allowed US Soccer to finally torpedo GDA. GDA was never going to rival ECNL, not how it was being managed. GA at least has a chance of being a really good 2nd option to ECNL. Comparing USYS to GA or ECNL is just dumb, USYS is team based and may have a handful of teams that could compete with their respective age group division GA or ECNL, but they don't have entire clubs capable of doing that which is what GA and ECNL are.

GDAs only shot to rival ECNL was year 1. By the end of that year 10-12 clubs bailed out, many of them top clubs. To fill geographic holes they added weaker clubs. Next year more clubs left, more weak additions. Rinse. Repeat. There's few strong clubs left. There's still some good players but not enough.

GA is basically becoming USYS/EDP since they are constantly back filling with those clubs just to be relevant. Why aren’t any ECNL clubs joining GA if indeed GA the “top platform” for girls in the nation as they claim to be? But agree 100% a few strong clubs and a few great players left as well.

Then ECNL is becoming ECRL because they added a number of those clubs this year.

Not really. GDA was vastly superior. When clubs left for ECNL it just evened things out.

ECNL doesn't want to start relegating like it needs to just because those clubs that get relegated might jump to GA instead. It's a money thing and image thing. As long as the weakest of ECNL clubs play mostly ECNL teams they can say it is still ECNL....cough cough PDA South....The second ECNL starts enforcing relegation clubs will jump to GA and be exposed at how weak they really are. Imagine this, a bottom 3 club gets relegated to RL and they decide to leave for GA. That next year the GA clubs beat up on that club almost as bad as the ECNL ones did. Who looks worse?

GA and USYS/EDP do things very differently, one is Club v Club while the other is Team v Team. Moving up from USYS by a club means they excelled at some point in either USYS, DPL or some other league around the country. Same thing happens for ECNL, they pick from clubs that were in either RL or GA. As for why ECNL clubs don't just go to GA, well sparky, ECNL still has that high class gloss on it. People are willing to pay for the dream of making it to a top soccer school. Notice ECNL hasn't put out a complete college impact statement since 2019. Most top schools choose players from nearby clubs or best of the best clubs (think top 3 or 4 at Nationals). The rest of ECNL doesn't do anymore than what the top half of GA clubs do in terms of college impact. But, believe what you will, if you think that the patch will open doors other clubs couldn't then by all means do what you want.

The fact shows if you want to play college soccer your odds increase playing on an ECNL or GA team. If that’s your kids goal find one of those clubs. If not, then find a club/team/coach that works beat for your kid and family for all the other reasons to play soccer.
