Private soccer training - worth it?

If you've hired a private soccer coach for your kid, has it been worth it? How have they improved? Do most kids on the high level teams have private coaches or do they just rely on playing on the team for their development?

I prefer small controlled group training. It’s better for simulating game pressure. I emphasize small. If the group gets to big all coaches loose focus and individualism. Privates have their place but in my experience should not be the primary training method.

Thx. I'm leaning toward small group for my son. Do you have any recommendations for coaches or centers in the central NJ area? We were recommended Ap2t and Dutch Total Soccer.

It is a waste of money but it is your money. If you do decide to do it small group is better/it opens up the number of training options and cuts the costs to a "reasonable" amount (I like 0$/let the kid do work on their own its free).

Both good. If your child is younger I’d lean DTS. If you are close to the shore RC Performance is excellent as well.

Agreed on the small group thing, plus it helps with cost. Just make sure the other players are a similar skill level

Also, wait until well inro middle school to make sure your player is really committed to the sport and they want to improve

I can't afford butter right now because you vote Blue. And if a kid can't train on their own for free paying for them to train makes total sense. 99.999999999% of these girls are not Carly Lloyd.

It absolutely can be a waste if the trainer isn't good, if the trainer isn't the right one for what the player needs, and if the player isn't really into it.

If that logic made sense the US would be producing world super stars lol unfortunately the US is the worst country for boys development. The women's side will start to drop their level now that the top nations are putting resources to develop the game on the women's side. In 10 yrs the US women's side will be a joke.

If I remember correctly Messi used this specific personal trainer in Argentina who just came to NJ. Try him he creates superstars. Also remember another guy in the streets of. Brazil who would tell the kids to play barefoot. He is good too.
Personal training is good for the trainer and stupid for you. American soccer royalty.

We are talking about improving EDP level talent not taking a stud and making them world class. Will they improve to the extent of the effort/cost involved? Maybe but that same level of improvement could be had for free in the backyard or local field.

Our real athletes don’t play boys soccer. Soccer is for the kids who can’t make the football team. If our athletes played soccer, USA would never lose a game anywhere, ever.
