I actually was OK with that poster's original post for the most part. They didn't see the benefit, others replied they do. Not uncommon.

People complain about club soccer and costs at all levels. Those down complain about those above. It's common. The higher you are on the pyramid, the more targets there are.

Again, chose the level that works for everyone when considering in all factors. I've never waivered from that opinion. There is no one size that fits all. That's what is great about the game.

So, once again, I have never convinced anyone they should do anything. Lots of attempts to point out what my family has decided to do is not worthwhile, wasteful, stupid, unnecessary, etc. And, I've always said she is happy with it and we are well aware of what we are getting into.

I will continue to maintain that position in spite of the attacks, and there has been plenty, that everyone should chose their own path.

You just don't like to see balanced reasoning from those who are for it. I get it. You aren't part of it, so you don't understand. Maybe there's a bit of jealousy in there, I don't know. Only you can answer as to why you have made it your mission to educate the masses on the evils of SUSC and DA. Whenever you look in the mirror, you can answer that. I hope you like the answer.

Here's where you make me want to bang my head against a wall: you keep implying you think anyone who doesn't like DA is " jealous". Get this through your head. Repeat out loud if you must: SUSC is watered down enough that anyone who really cared to make the move from one of their NPL teams, or another club's NPL, ECNL, or DA to could have. It is not some selective, elite team like you seem to think it is. When you say people are "jealous" it's like seeing two Dunkin Donuts a block apart and claiming the people in the other one are " jealous". ANY of us could have had a spot on the SUSC DA teams for our kid. If we opine that it's a ridiculous and unnecessary program for SUSC, it's because we really think it is, not because we're "jealous".

I assume you have to tell yourself otherwise to convince yourself that the program is somehow special and your D is a unicorn.

Sounds like you're assuming most of the players on the current DA team were forced into it by their parents and dragged kicking and screaming to that 4th practice every week? Most teenagers have minds of their own, so I doubt many are being forced (those that are won't put up with it after the end of this year). There are probably many that were on the fence about it and decided to try it for a year, then re-evaluate if it's something they feel worthwhile to continue. I really don't see a down side to trying it. You also don't know where are these kids live. Perhaps this is the best training they can get without wasting a ton of time commuting down to MA. You're absolutely right though, that your daughter, at this point in time, shouldn't be doing DA, because she doesn't have the drive or motivation to do it. Good that you're keeping your mind open if she changes her desires.

I imply nothing. I have consistently stated everyone chooses what best fits everything they factor into their decisions. Not everyone weights each factor the same. They then presumably make a decision on what best fits their plan for a positive outcome of their own choosing

But if it matters i’ll answer: she swims, skis, hikes, and likes lots of things that typical teenagers like. But she loves soccer. Every year we talk about she wants to do and it’s soccer. Sure she sees I love it and it’s always been a part of her life. Just like hiking and skiing. I expect that’s common for lots of kids to like what their parents do.

Nope, and I wasn't talking about Seacoast specifically. I didn't suggest anyone was forced to do anything either. My post was just meant to be general. I just don't see the ROI/the value in DA compared to other paths etc... whether it'd Seacoast DA, NEFC DA, or some other. I'm not cheap, but I always look for the best deal on anything I buy. Again, if it's the 4 trainings, great coaching, and good competition, I can get that for way less than 20k + a year. And again, if your pathway is anything less than D1 or NT, you're wasting your money on DA. If you've got time and money to burn go for it, but I doubt you could convince me that DA is good value compared to other options or pathways.

I'm not sure what club costs 20K + per year, but I wouldn't send my D there either. My D does play DA though, not Seacoast, and I can tell you personally we pay nothing near that cost. In fact we pay less than 10K per year.

For the less than 6K per year that I spend on my daughter to play DA we get the following: 4 Weekly training sessions, games most every weekend, great coaching, goalkeeper training, 2 full GK kits, 2 full training kits, warm-up, weight and speed training, video analysis, full travel costs for league games including charter bus to/from games, and 3 showcase tournaments.

Now that 6K does go up to roughly 7.5K because I have to purchase the flights for her to travel to the showcases. However, once there, she stays at the team hotel with lodging / food / and travel to and from games covered. Once at the showcases though, she has the opportunity to be watched by US YNT scouts, along with over 200 D1 and D2 college coaches.

I also have the choice if I want to travel to any of the away games / showcases. If I choose to, then yes the cost increases, but the cost does not go to the club. It is for my travel/hotel room/food, not my D's.

The DA may not be for you or for your D, but I can assure you there are clubs that are way less than 20K per year. I'm the poster he was replying to, but I have pretty much the same answer. My kid plays tennis, is a good rock climber, also skis and hikes, plays an instrument, and even placed in an art contest last year. Just because a kid doesn't have time to play other organized sports due to a full soccer practice schedule doesn't mean they don't have other interests outside of soccer. So many posters come on here assuming any kid who plays DA has no time to be a good student or have any other interests, which is completely false. I'd love to get a list of all the other activities the girls on these DA teams are doing. I'd bet you'd find a lot of things to make them all sound like interesting people.

That's a decent deal. From what I've seen a lot of the away league games are several hours drive though. For example, for SUSC, they have 8 games that are 4+ hours drive this year. The Club buses the kids there, puts them up in a hotel, and feeds them for all these games, as part of the yearly fee (at least for your kids club?)? I wonder what SUSC does.

Somewhat true on the ECNL comparison. since the older age groups don't play in the Fall it looks like there may be a few less games. Few more games in CT and MA, but a couple more beyond the 6 hour mark. To your point two games on a weekend will require an overnight, even if it's in CT for some.

And it’s not the true cost. I don’t care if a kid plays DA, ECNL, NPL. These long posts rarely state the truth. There are honest arguments for every league, but people aren’t inclined to rely on them because they aren’t compelling enough to convince people that their league and choice are better. To each his own is the only honest answer.
