What does liking the school have to do with it. It’s all about soccer, at least until they quit after no playing time freshman year

My daughters friend plays on the men's team now. D1 is a grind but he likes it. Great facility. Two of the coaches are Bolts. Head coach has been very nice to us during ID camps (even though there is a link in TS that bashes him regularly...someone has a vendetta against him).

Great school. Soccer program is currently at the bottom of the Patriot league. Their leading goal scorer just left. If they finish at the bottom of the league again then my guess is that they will make a coaching change.

Bates has an extraordinary number of recruits -- even more so when you see the complete list including kids not in Massachusetts. I wonder what's up there? Does the coach have *that* many slots? Will all the kids end up on the team in the end?

My son's D3 team last year brought in 15 freshmen and they all made the team. There were a handful of cuts of upperclassmen and some voluntary departures from the team by upperclassmen that created the space. There is more turnover to these rosters than I realized prior to my son attending college. The coach is new at Bates (2nd season) so he may be making a push to bring in "his guys".

Right but why would any 2020's look at a school thats brining in so many recruits in the class just ahead of you?!?

Because some of them won't make it past year one - voluntarily or not - and other older players will be graduating or leaving themselves. It's also easier to carry a larger roster in D3 as there's no scholly money involved.

Right but teh most they carry is 30 and the program mentioned above is bringing in 18 which leaves only 4 spots for other classes. Yes 'some' won't make it but 18 is almost double of other schools

                              They have JV teams

Bates is not that easy to get into. Does this mean Bates has 18 spots for the coach to help with admissions? Or did he tell 12 if they got in on their own they are on the team? Or, did some players misunderstand and actually they don't have a spot on the team? I have a 2021 and I'm trying to understand d3 recruiting.
