Prior philosophy and BDA operations meant investing in kids as young as 12. Clubs pushed back and the youngest ones got dropped but its still a multi-year investment in kids - almost all who don't have a chance in hell going pro and making and $ for a club. Adding players developed elsewhere makes sense financially. We will see if new management changes that way of thinking

The point of MLS academies is to bring the best players in the region together (supposedly under the best coaching), so they can push each other to improve in an intense, competitive environment, ultimately creating some homegrown players along the way.

In waiting to do any "serious" scouting until players are 16-17 years old, valuable development time is being wasted, as the younger elite players are spread out over multiple clubs with maybe one or two teammates who can play at their level. The scouting at the initial entry age to the Revs academy is perhaps the worst, when it should be the most important. Revs seem to rely on the recommendations of the club coaches with whom they have the best connections, paying back favors, and club coach choices are, of course, highly political. The Revs figure they have plenty of time to make adjustments before the age group gets to U17, so no need to spend time finding players who really belong, they'll surface at some point...

and in most areas that is how it work - the MLS club gets the best of the best (or at least most of them) in a local market. It's just that here the Revs were so weak and coaching reputation so poor that many players didn't want to go there. If new leadership can prove it's the place to be then the Revs shouldn't have any trouble getting the area's better players to move over. If it's more of the same, then expect more of the same.

Also true that the cohort of youth payers in New England simply isn't great.

Kind of, sort of. The area is big enough that with the right staff the club can definitely be at least improved. A few quality players moved away to avoid the Revs.

lol not the poster but none of those are top soccer programs. Lots of good schools and decent soccer, but top soccer at all.

How many players do the Revs have on their U19 roster?

How many commits do they have on that roster?

Are you honestly saying that replacing 10 players on the Revs roster with 10 players from the list above wouldn’t make the Revs U19’s a much better squad?

Are the Revs scouts clueless, biased or just lazy?

You act as if a smart parent would even consider a Revs offer. I may consider it AFTER my kid commits just to save money.

Maybe yes, maybe no. Can't change the past. What matters is what the club does moving forward. Revs commits are a bit stronger than that, although some are also ISL kids they wouldn't even take a few years ago. Also don't forget MLS teams are U18/19 and typically won't have as many graduating in any given year vs a non MLS team

Some of the Revs kids actually committed while at their previous clubs.

The Bolts have a U17 committed to Boston College. It doesn’t matter how many graduating players any non-MLS teams has. What matters is that all those committed players are paying $3,000 to play club soccer somewhere other than the Revs for $0.

The Revs either can’t identify talent, or can’t convince the talent to come play for free in Foxboro.

You should note that quite a few of those players were in the Revs system at some point during the past 4-5 years. Interesting to know if they were cut or if they left on their own? If they left willingly, Revs wouldn't be able to get them back anyway. If cut, who knows if they'd give the program a second try...
