Not everyone has equal abilities. This is as true physically as it is mentally. Not everyone should go to college. In fact, the majority of our lower and middle income families (yes, school performance tends to follow income) should be looking at trades or Community Colleges at most.

As to kids going pro vs. college, the only reason you see most NBA/NFL players coming through college is because that is the current farm league. Most of those "student athletes" don't belong on a college campus, but those programs bring in money via TV rights so they recruit the athletes, not the scholars. Soccer doesn't have that problem... so yeah, a marginal student but soccer prodigy might want to go pro. That type of student wasn't going to earn the median college salary anyway.
Most intelligent fact on this thread. Thanks.

But the bulk of youth players come from middle to upper income families who tend to be better educated and for whom education is a priority. Until that changes, the draw of college will not go away. Also, in most other countries you won't go broke going to college. So giving a pro career a shot, even if just for a few years, becomes much less complicated because there's no scholarship dollars lost.

Our children obviously apply to and attend very different institutions of higher learning.

In 4 years (2022) half of all mens D1 college soccer players will be foreign.

There are fewer and fewer spots for non superstar but suitable US players. Part of it is talent driven, part of it is institutional strategy to diversify and celebrate "students from 82 countries".

majority could mean 51% or it could mean 99% - where are you on that?

Very true...you can see the trend at almost all D1 schools. Some of these 'kids' have already graduated from their university. Players come here on a full scholarship and repeat their education - 4 years older than our graduating high school seniors. All perfectly legal in NCAA rules.

                      Good point - I'd legitimately say 70% - certainly not 99%, but I could see 70%.

Ah, no. Men's soccer doesn't have enough scholarships to reach those number - only 9.9 in total and only if it's fully funded. They can attend quality schools back home for virtually nothing and US schools cost a mint in comparison, plus costly travel back home. It is a factor in D1 soccer but not as big as you think,(16.1% are foreign born). It's a little bigger 21% in D2 because there's lower academic requirements for easier admission. D3 hardly has any internationals, 3%< because there's no athletic money only need and merit money.

Why is it sad. No one owes anyone anything.

No one at the Revs cares about any college information. It shows in their commitments.

Not only that but to me it shows what a failure DA is. International rejects are taking spots from our DA trained players. I don't blame the coaches - they'll take the players they think will be difference makers. Most times they're better trained, more skilled and more disciplined than our US players.

soccer prodigy?! Have you seen one out there in the DA or anywhere here in New England?

It's more like "a marginal student but a kid who can play mid level D1 soccer (at best)" - that kid might as well go to college and stick it out even if he/she will earn below the median salary.
