It's a flaw in the system as a whole. There's rankings and playoffs for all to see. Strong performances keep talent knocking on the club door, wanting in. This is even more important at pay to play clubs. Besides, motivated players want to play and win. So do coaches. Are wins indicative of development? Of course not. But they do motivate people

Now it's EVERY other club placing more players in the college ranks.
I maintain that this is beneficial to the motivated soccer player in Massachusetts because the selection criteria of the Revs is convoluted at best.
Opening up proven pathways to quality schools without having to participate in the local, dysfunctional, MLS DA bubble is a huge win for the soccer landscape.
If you want to go to Revs have at it.
If you want to go to college, look to top teams at almost every other club.

I think the shift we are seeing comes from parents and players being more aware of the value they're getting from staying with the Revs those last couple years of high school. Kids being chosen for the YNT teams will obviously stay, hoping for either an HG contract or to be spotted by a club abroad when playing in high level competitions. Kids who don't have a lot of scholastic aptitude may also make a bet that relying on soccer will get them into a better program than focusing on grades (and this is probably a good bet for some).
It's the kids who are good students in the Revs Academy that we are seeing make a move out of the program toward the end of high school in order to position themselves better academically (usually through private high schools, and for some, less of a commute=more time for school work). They still have the strong soccer background and will play at high level club until they graduate. Rate of improvement of play may drop off somewhat, playing in less competitive leagues, but the academic advantage makes up for this. These kids end up getting into good schools, but are no longer listed as commits for the Revs. It'd be interesting to see the list of commits for kids who spent 2 or more years with the Revs before graduating.

Reality is USSF cares only about pro/Nt players but 99.5% either don't have the skills or aspirations. It isn't just a Revs-only thing. It's a system designed for a small group of one type of player that needs too many of the others to make it work logistically and financially

They need the right type of scouting ecosystem (an evolved, smart system, free of ignorance, nepotism and other forms of corruption) to find and nurture these players.

You may want to take a closer look at the Revs' commits and where they actually developed instead of those from other clubs.

Brad Friedel: Peter Garrett (Midnight Oil)
Two ugly dudes separated at birth? Anyone notice how Friedel has a British accent that comes and goes like a bad rash?
