Define travel. Gas? We didn't stay in hotels other than a Florida trip and the upcoming Indiana one. We don't have holiday weekend tournaments. We drive to away games and come home the same day.

So you will drive to NY, NJ, PA and drive back home the same day? That's a lot of gas, wear and tear on the car, mental strain if you ask me. Staying over would be easier. Many times multiple games will be scheduled for games that are long distances so I don't think you are being totally honest either.

Why is no one talking about the enormous cost of ECNL for boys? What a scam.

If you think it's wise to pay that kind of money to play in a lesser league than DA, so you can also play boot ball high school soccer, you're beyond help.

The cost differential varies by club. Some parents are willing to pay so that their kid can play HS sports, or simply that it's a better path for their player. DA is great if you're a consistent starter, especially at an MLS club. If you're player 14+ and especially at a pay to play club then moving down a level might be a better bet, especially if HS is important to you (soccer or other sports).

Yes. Driving to NJ and back is only 4 hours each way. That was our furthest trip for a regular season game. Round trip was basically 1.5 tanks of gas. What's that, $60? That's nothing.

We had 3 double header weekends. Two of those weekends were both home games and the third was 1 home game and 1 away.

DA isn't that expensive. It will be significantly less expensive than ECNL next year. I doubt whether DA would be more expensive than a decent NPL team.

Three other 2003's quit. RR did a stellar job of making players *want* to be a Revs player.

Too bad they quit before Montreal. That looks to be a good tournament. At least for kids playing.

And DA has 2 national events - never drivable - and plenty of league driving as well. ECNL usually has one more event, but of the 3 one is PDA (drivable). ECNL games are drivable unless you want to fly (and why would you on the East coast) and usually grouped with another team in the area so you get two games in a weekend vs just one. The schedule is just more compressed than DA but has a similar number of home and away games. No European trips, no camps. Yes ECNL costs a bit more than pay-to-play DA, but you'd have to work really hard to spend $10,000, and that would require you traveling with your kid every trip which isn't necessary. Try "thinking" harder.

Many revs\bolts academy players in various age groups showing up at stars ecnl tryouts this week. Seems like the smart decision. If your HS offers decent soccer it should be a no brainer for top players to go ecnl. If people were honest, anyone who has played DA and Topclub knows that DA is alot of hype. Top npl teams would beat DA in Ma. Proof of this is in how DA performs regionally , if they had most of the best players they would be able to compete.

I would have to agree with poster from my son's own experience playing DA. He literally lost his passion for the game and was basically a prisoner the 4 years we put up with it. The only thing that keep us there was that it was free and the end game being college. He will play HS his senior year now and he is literally glowing in anticipation of playing with his friends. I think alot a people would be surprised at how many
players leave on their own terms.

Agreed, Bolts and Revs turf war at an all time high. Bolts extending prep school waivers while Revs took a hard line against them. Bolts will win out with that one, especially with a certain 2002 stud. Revs returning essentially roster fillers, not key players. They are one more season and done.

Bolts parent here- no waivers, no exceptions - that's how it was told to us. All prep school/HS players are directed to ECNL

Wow! Brutal. Meanwhile, if there weren't so many different leagues, you could likely get comparable competition within a two hour drive. Sad.
