We have such a wealth of colleges and universities in our area with decent soccer programs, it seems like a waste not to engage some of these players, especially in the spring during their off season, to train and compete with DA players. I know there may already be a scrimmage once in a while between DA & college programs, but I don't believe it's a regular occurrence?
As many previously mentioned, due to our geography, the very top players are sprinkled around the country, making it very difficult for them to train regularly together. How about taking the top DAP players from each team in a particular region (say Bolts, Revs, & Seacoast in our region) and training them together one or two days a week along side slightly higher level college/university players to stretch them a bit. Some DAP players are already doing something similar during the summer playing on PDL teams, but this could provide this experience through the spring, as well.
I guess they could even go so far as creating a full-time team of these top regional DAP players, having existing DAP teams feeding into it, but instead of having to travel incredible distances to play other regional DAP teams, they would have a schedule of college/university teams within their region to play. One problem with making this a full-time team would be that some players may already be traveling long distances to their current DAP training, and if the regional DAP training locations are even further, it might prohibit 4-5 day/week training.
