It's sad that we continually warn parents about the Revs only to watch them fall for the bait and switch. It's like that movie Groundhog Day.

I am just reporting what my kid tells me from practice. I have not bought any hogwash from the coaches, in fact have barely ever spoken to them. I like the fact that they treat the players as young adults and mostly exclude the parents from the equation. It is teaching our 13 year old to make up his own mind about how serious he wants to be about soccer rather than trying to live up to his Mom's or my expectations. Of course we do a lot of driving for him, but he is proud that he has earned the free coaching, travel, equipment etc. The Revs is working out very well for our family. Feel free to laugh if it makes you feel better, but it won't change our mind.

Awwwww. That's so cute. You let the coaches parent for you.

Letting the coaches coach. Why does that annoy you so much? Nobody for you to manipulate?

He can decide he wants to be serious about soccer but still won't receive the full DA experience at the Revs. Bare minimum at best.

I don't talk to coaches. They don't impress me. I don't really like soccer.

You just talk to people that impress you? Your fellow posters on TS are flattered, but if you don't like soccer go to another forum perhaps?

If you told him that to his face he would laugh at you. Because it is none of your business.

Because he's 13 and doesn't know any better. You should. You're letting him down.

It would be better for the younger boys to stay local more during the week and attend one Revs practice and game. The practices aren't aimed at developing the whole player and rather serve as evaluations (based on what, the boys have not figured out.)

The U13 and U14 age groups are too young for the Rev model. Be thankful that the 2004 age group remains allianced.

Many have said - and I agree - at the younger ages you're better off developing at a top club then trying to get into the Revs at U15+. They certainly cut players so there will be openings. HS is when being in DA matters more for recruiting, And it gives kids more time to see how dedicated they really are to the sport.

So few parents get this. They stymie their child's view of the world believing they only hold the insight, knowledge and fundamentals their kid needs. This is a serious mental issue for the parents that greatly damages their kids. The parents continually relate worthlessness without their presence and this proves true because their children do not perform well or constantly create problems hence making their own fears come true.

By 13, kids require significant independence for their development, especially in organized environments, (not by deserting them to their own devices at home or roving the streets). Back to soccer, the Revs provide autonomy , high training level many teens are thrilled about (and to some -a welcome escape from these hovering oppressors).

Yes, I am a shrink. We all hope these folks get their wish to stay closer to home next year.

Simple concepts actually. Revs should hire you to deal with the "hovering oppressors". Too late for a few, way too much parental damage already inflicted on some of the players.

True dat if patronizing. Folks who feel their kids aren't getting high caliber training and should stay close to their skirt should pursue those aspirations. Going back to our club filled with political dramas, clown coaches and the intrusive obsessive/compulsive parents would be sure development killer. My kid has loved it at the Revs for 2 years.
