Admittedly I do not have first hand experience with UNC soccer recruiting though know SB who was an early commit. My point was they probably have more latitude to take a great soccer player with weaker academics than schools like Stanford or Northwestern. Though am happy to stand corrected if that's not the case.

The admit rate for the general applicant pool is not what I was talking about.

Men’s soccer exists to raise the Athletic Department’s cumulative GPA at UNC.

The top 150 is really kind of a joke. Not much different then got soccer rankings once you get below the top 25 nationally. I would say on average the top 50 are probably where they belong. Many kids don't belong in the top 150 or even close. I know a few div 1 players that were not on this list and much better than kinds that were on the list. I just boils down to if you have been seen and not many NE players get seen to begin with compared to the rest of the country. It is what it is, but not worth a grain of salt if you ask me. Just bragging rights or soccer resume builder for some for some. I'm sure college coaches recruiting really don't care if you are 148 on the list. They would rather see you play over some list.

This is exactly the type of info posters here need. Please list these players you know and the Top 150 players they surpassed at the D1 level.

This may be true at the younger ages but by the graduation year Top 150 players have very impressive college commitments. That demonstrates some level of accuracy. In terms of being seen wouldn’t an MLS Academy have a distinct advantage in terms of exposure at scouted showcases and GA events? Why wouldn’t we have the lions share of the ranked players?

um, because MA soccer blows compares to the rest of the US? Just a thought, especially vs out west (CA, OR, WA, TX, CO) plus IL, FL, and a few other states. Small state, only so much talent and plenty of mediocre clubs.

As has been said the top players are easier to identify. They're standouts so of course they land at good programs. It's players 151-2000 where any list will fall apart.

So the Top 150 is somewhat accurate in your opinion?

Not if your kid is on it

So 1-50 are justifiably placed but 51-3000+ are completely inaccurate? Which ranking should we look to for the best information about all the players?

My kid is too young yet for any lists.

Great point! Do you think being on the list might influence more coaches to come see you play though?

Maybe yes, maybe no. Besides, getting them there is only a small part of the battle. If you don't wow them on the field no list placement will ever overcome that.

You shouldn't be looking at anything. Worry about your own kid, if they're improving, being challenged, working hard, have the drive to play in college. Getting on a list isn't going to change the outcome if none of that is happening.

The list doesn't exist in a vacuum. If your son is highly ranked chances are he plays on a top, well known team. That, video highlights, emails expressing interest, awards like most valuable player, or Capt as a junior etc will get a coach interested, the list isn't really relevant.

Schedule out. Looks like they are splitting up MLS and Non MLS in the DA.

Revs can’t hide out behind all the non MLS clubs anymore. Maybe getting pounced on the regular will encourage some investment in the academy.
