Well, if #18 had more training and playing oppys he might. So as of now, the organization of DA has deliberately suppressed the potential of #18 - perhaps at a young age or perhaps right when he is peaking physically. So why not give the player who wants to go pro more training or playing time, if the others don't want to do it?

As others have said - the goal of the vast majority of players (which is college) are not the same as the goals of USSF or any of the MLS clubs. At non MLS clubs the goals are making money, so no alignment there either. At the Revs or any MLS club, how many players want and realistically have a shot at going pro? or making the NT? A tiny fraction. It the wrong system for what US soccer needs, and even then, in this country the focus on education isn't one that is going to go away. They need to adapt to what we have here, or change the system altogether and let other venues work for the players without the skills or aspirations to go pro.

This is what happens at the Revs Academy. If they're afraid of the top players leaving, then lock 'em up. The NCAA will not help development. The MLS has just allocated more TAM for homegrowns, make some moves you cheap pathetic bastards. Or sell the club to owners who care about the fan base and the young players.

Let me see if I'm understanding your perspective. My son likes soccer a lot. He gets scouted and offered a spot on the Revs even though soccer is his 2nd best sport. He accepts and I'm freed financially from the Ponzi Scheme that is club soccer. He's getting decent playing time and is enjoying the experience. Your position is that he shouldn't play for the Revs because he wants to go into Finance instead of the MLS? Again, the Revs chose him. They didn't choose someone else.

If it were up to USSF your son wouldn't be in the system. But they designed the system, which requires thousands of players to make it work. It's literally impossible to fill all the rosters in BDA, and soon GDA, with players who are aligned with the goals of USSF. So they have to take who tries out/gets scouted and is willing to play for DA teams, regardless of what their personal goals may be. Even better if they get to do it for free - it makes giving up HS sports a little more tolerable

This all very foreign to the American professional landscape.MLS and US Soccer are reeling. The other major sports do not deal with this. Americans and the USSF outed FIFA's corruption and this is a bit of a pay back.The Trump affect doesn't help. Professional soccer is nothing to sneeze at from a global standpoint.
