It’s clear listening to the posters here that they are so focused on high school-aged soccer that they don’t understand how pro teams work. There is no requirement that all local talent is scooped up by the local pro franchise. It doesn’t happen in baseball, football, basketball, etc. so why expect it in soccer? If talent goes elsewhere maybe it’s because it’s a better fit for that player and pro club. Maybe they need someone for a specific position or skill set. It’s not a reflection that the local pro club is bad. Conversely, maybe the Revs can’t find the talent they need locally and search nationally like every other team.
One poster tried to make the correlation between money spent and quality, and again it shows a lack of understanding of how pro teams work. The market dictates what you can afford. So if a NYC, LA, or Houston team where there is a local market potential of millions of fans spends more than Revs where the market is far smaller, that’s economics and not an indicator the team is being cheap or is less committed.
Long story short, it would be really rare for homegrowns to make up the entire roster of a pro team, whether it’s the first, second, or academy team. Most clubs only have a few and that’s the same for the Revs.
