Why not keep the players in their home clubs where they can actually play soccer and be happy rather than paying to them to be miserable on their teams? Or, if you are going to invest money, why put all your eggs in one basket? Seems so ludicrous and illogical to me.
Pay to Play your style and brand. Big step forward for youth soccer. Are you really making this an argument. LOL

I'm pretty sure that most people realize what playing for the Revs means before signing up. They certainly didn't do their homework if it's a shock to them that playing time is not equal and the best players will be identified early on in the season and given more opportunities to develop.

For those who did their homework, they joined the club in hopes that they would be one of these identified players and would receive, arguably, the best training that exists in this region, including lots of playing time on their own team and opportunities to play up. For those not identified, yes, the ride is tough, but that was a risk they knowingly took going into it. After the year is over, they'll move on and find a better developmental environment for themselves. This turnover has been happening year after year and shouldn't be a surprise to the Revs parents and players.

"Moving on" really means they'll be released by the Revs and end up on the Bolts. A very select group of players stay with them through U18.

But, I am sure that all the 2003 and 2002 players have played up most of their time before Revs. Weird system.
Scoring goals is not what it's about. If the player has it easy in his own age group, then development is stagnant. The Revs coaches immediately remove him and play him up if he has the physical attributes. Keep in mind, this is not club soccer. They don't care about scoring prowess and final results. It's about individual development, decision making, field vision and identifying and anticipating how play develops. If you think that your kid playing up in age, is being short changed because he has stopped scoring in bunches when he was playing in his age group, you are in the wrong sport my dear friend. You really are!!

Even when told how it works I think most parents believe it won't happen to their kid. Their kid has always been a super star up until then. Then a new reality sets in. It's sink or swim and isn't easy for parents to watch. That said there still are a few odd picks every year, and the Revs don't have the greatest track record of developing their talent. There are rewards but risks as well.

This particular cohort of U13 and U14 parents won't sit back and watch their kids wither away to nothing. Not after all that hard work! Some will get cut but some will leave even if their kid is offered a spot next year. I think the main issue is that the coaches have their chosen few and no matter what they do or what anybody else does on the field , those few won't change. Telling your kid that hard work will make the coaches notice you is now just a blantant lie.

All the boys have figured this out.

You would have to be very unaware not to think it couldn't happen to your kid. Town soccer was sink or swim too, remember the kids who loved soccer, but didn't have a clue, I hope some of them are still playing with their friends in the park. I was never a good player, but always loved the game, and still do. My kid is 1,000 times better than me, my hope is that he will go as far as he can in the game, but more importantly never fall out of love with it. When he reaches his peak, or maybe steps beyond it and winds up on the bench, I will help him find another team where he can play, not watch. Playing is what it is all about. The level doesn't matter.

Hard work and talent will make the coaches notice you. One or the other only works at lower levels.

Agree with all except the unaware portion. Maybe it shouldn't be called unaware but just a presumption. Like the poster above said these kids have always been the rock stars and parents at least hope it will continue. They suppress the fact that it might not continue. When it does happen it's a kick in the gut to them. Add some politics and occasional unexpected picks and you get pages and pages and multiple threads of Revs' rants. And sadly, unlike you, many parents are unwilling to accept it when their kids need to step back down a level. It's one of the big reasons kids are moved from club to club so often.

...and still end up 0-0 vs. Seacoast United.

Skill difference is marginal, subjective and changes quickly. Don't confuse butt kissing skill with soccer skill.

Truly amazed me how parents react when their kids don't get PT. Instead of looking at this subjectively they start blaming everyone or everything else for the cause of their kids situation. At this level the cream of the crops raise to the top and yes it is subjective. Coaches are human to and their can make mistakes in evaluating players. I know players that did not make the cut their first year and came back and made this year. Asked the coach for feedback and was told there are many players at this level that have similar technical and tactical skills. What separates them are vision, ability to read the game and execution.

Maybe it's the word "Development" in the name. Only certain players are developed; the rest are practice players. It's become more and more apparent that the true cream of teh crop needs something even more specialized than DA. DA, with it's 75+ clubs and wide range of coaching and player skill is too broad for nt or pro potential players. The difficulty lies in trying to make a system work in a manageable way with our current geography and limited number of professional clubs in the US.
