If this is true it explains a lot. Playing time does not determine ability. There are certain positions that have more players and require more physical exertion. For instance a center back doesn't run as much as a forward and doesn't need to be taken out as often. Coaches also like to keep consistency in the back versus midfield and forwards which would explain higher playing time.
It would be ridiculous to determine ability by field time!

That's ludicrous. Scouts were all over NC and at DA games in addition to the NTC invites. They are not reading stat sheets.
