How do they track this: over time the smaller less noticeable clever and creative contributions begin to add up?

It seems that they are only tracking goals scored. And in a case where a player plays one position the entire season (say center back), how are they to track anything?

And that playing time? DA has rules about minimal starts so is that really an indicator? Then many clubs violate the start rules anyway. If you're a bench player you're a bench player

The USMNT and Academy still favor big players- or early developers. Maybe they were trying to adjust their strategy. Maybe they went a little too far the other way.

Actually, the past BNT Futures camps were looking specifically at boys who were less physically mature than most in their age groups, or who were on the younger side of the age group. Seems like they are trying to keep track of some of these smaller kids who show promise, but may not have the physical presence until much later. It's great to see that they aren't casting players aside prematurely, but giving them the time they need to develop physically.

If you have an 03 and he doesn't get called into a BNT camp you'll be cut by the Revs in June when they combine the 02 & 03 teams for 2017/18. It totally sucks but that's the way they work.

Not quite. This years invites to the BNT came from the last NTC where the players must have stood out. The invites to the NTC came from recommendations from the players prior club team. Not Revs since they were not playing for them at that time.
