The 2004's will then be U14. Will Revs have a 2005 U13 age group?
As another person mentioned, many clubs that actually care about their DA programs have a those U15s & U17s who were already in the DA system, but weren't able to push one of the older kids off of the combined age group teams, play on their pre-academy team to keep them developing and get them ready to possibly jump in the following year. Also, some of the U15/U16 teams have huge rosters in order to keep some extra U15 players developing. Unfortunately, those are the kids who will see very little playing time.

The players on the U14 team last year had to fight for a roster spot on a combined U15/U16 group this year, and other than next year, every future U14 group will be dealing with this (and for that matter, the U16s moving up to U17/U18 have to deal with this, as well). I see this more as a case of the U14's and U16's playing this year getting a little bit lucky, because they'll be jumping to the older of the combined age groups, so perhaps a few extra make it through the gauntlet.

Are people really surprised by this?

With 19 on the 02 roster and 20 on the 03 one you can assume that the 03's are going to be cut en masse next year when both ages transition to U15/U16.
I can't fathom the scramble those families will need to make come June.
How do the Revs feel about their players taking time out to attend other tryouts?
