Given the Revs aren't known for spending a dime more than necessary I don't see that happening. I know there's been talk of DA going to a single aged team per year but I haven't seen anything official. Regardless, DA is supposed to be a funnel so many kids will get cut no matter what
The U15/U16 team next year would be 2003/2002 players. I would guess they would save more 2003 players because they could keep them an extra year to see if they develop. Plus that team has had better success and does not depend on a few that leave to "play up"

There should be signs all over any Revs training facility:

THIS IS A CREATIVITY FREE ZONE!

Want your son to be the best player he can be and not simply concerned with saying "We play for the Revs"?

      Get him OFF the Revs.

And does not pass to your kid. Good for him, smart player!

Can you name a better alternative? Not just a cute reply but a viable option. Go.

Well that's a good thing since he is not on that team. :)

Right, you posted this at 3 a.m out of general concern for a team your kid isn't even on.

It sounds like the holding mid(s) and attacking mid(s) are never moving off the ball to find space to support the centerback and provide additional passing options in the middle. Or the centerback has no faith in his midfield to maintain possession and advance the ball. The reality is if you're playing 4 backs and 3 mids, the centerback should have a couple of options forward, an option wide and and an option back to the keeper. Simple triangles...

The 2004's will then be U14. Will Revs have a 2005 U13 age group?
I wouldn't say the 2003 group is screwed. Just think of them as U14s. The players on the U14 team last year had to fight for a roster spot on a combined U15/U16 group this year, and other than next year, every future U14 group will be dealing with this (and for that matter, the U16s moving up to U17/U18 have to deal with this, as well). I see this more as a case of the U14's and U16's playing this year getting a little bit lucky, because they'll be jumping to the older of the combined age groups, so perhaps a few extra make it through the gauntlet.

As another person mentioned, many clubs that actually care about their DA programs have a those U15s & U17s who were already in the DA system, but weren't able to push one of the older kids off of the combined age group teams, play on their pre-academy team to keep them developing and get them ready to possibly jump in the following year. Also, some of the U15/U16 teams have huge rosters in order to keep some extra U15 players developing. Unfortunately, those are the kids who will see very little playing time.

Basically, if you are a 2003 and aren't playing up with the U14s at some point during the year, you'll either be cut next year, or will see very little playing time. Remember, too, that kids not already in the Revs system will also be entering the mix at U15/U16. Seems to always be a couple of Bolts & Seacoast players who switch to the Revs at this age group, along with some top kids from non-DA clubs who are now ready (or whose parents are now ready) to make the commitment to DA.

It's a pyramid ... The higher you go, fewer roster spots. As noted many times in previous posts, the revs only care about a handful of players ... trying the find USMNT / Pro prospects. And if those players come from outside the system / and displace players who have moved up the ranks, that is not a concern for them.

100% correct. There is a great deal of turnover there. No one should be surprised by this, but yet for some reason every year many are. It's a function of how the system is structured and the fact that the Revs and USSF don't care. Their job is to focus on the top 2%. The rest are practice players. So if you're considering DA (boys or girls) for your kid you better be dam well sure they'll be a top starter.

Not part of the Revs program, but this is the reality in any organization. Life is a pyramid, and the higher you go the less chances there are; competition increases. Nobody is owed anything, and loyalty doesn't mean anything.

Are people really surprised by this?

With 19 on the 02 roster and 20 on the 03 one you can assume that the 03's are going to be cut en masse next year when both ages transition to U15/U16.

I can't fathom the scramble those families will need to make come June.

How do the Revs feel about their players taking time out to attend other tryouts?
