incentives that "encourage" them to give their kid more playing time- Free vacations at Martha's Vineyard (a recent example) and huge gift certificates are welcomed by some coaches.

Originally posted by UnregisteredIt's only going to hurt his team and his record/reputation in the long run . The kid with the poor first touch who gets more playing time will improve but not as much as the better player who switches to a different team and gets more playing time (assuming he gets a decent coach ). College coaches are increasingly aware of the shenanigans that go on in academy soccer and the good ones can easily spot the players who were pushed ahead underservedly.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostNo Academy coach or club coach for that matter is playing kids with poor touches over a better player. That assertion doesn't even make any sense. Academies have to start kids 25% of the time, and, if they don't, they're fined. So weaker players get starts, too, not the other way around. And the other poster is right. Academy play is much faster than club play. Huge difference.

As for the accusations of some kid of bribery that's a pretty big stretch. Maybe it exists but I have to believe is very rare. I think more often than not it's more club politics and coach incompetence. They all have high level licenses but that doesn't mean they are good at their jobs. And like it or not coaches still want to win games. Having a good record means you keep your job for another year.

Originally posted by Unregistered View PostTalking about players who on average are worse players than their counterparts sitting on the bench. There are not many of these - but they are the teams weakest link -a few who will often lose the ball by being either too slow or with a poor first touch and this often leads to crucial giveaways that lead to goals or killing the momentum of a great play and losing a great opportunity to score. Players on the new u16 bolts academy team know what/who I'm taking about. There are a few players on that team who too often ruin a play and they are still rewarded with a lot of playing time. Of course the coach knows they are getting too much undeserved playing time but he's driven by other incentives. This is a fact.
Here is a very speculative alternative theory: your kid isn't nearly as good as you think.
This is a fact: They know exactly who you are. Do you really think they are going to put up with your clown act for another year?
