Yet another reason to not do non MLS DA - you're still paying. At least if you're not getting much PT on an MLS team it's free.

Nothing is " free", there's a price to be paid for everything you embark on in life. Remember that.

I'd pay double to keep my son out of high school soccer.

Agreed, high school soccer, both public and prep, is dead. Inferior brand, chalk full of B and C level players. If your son has any talent, he's in the USSDA and he sticks until his graduation year. Anything short of that, he's headed nowhere.

Unless you go overseas east or south.

Hate to break it to you, but the vast majority of your USSDA players are going nowhere in soccer as well.

You are so misinformed, it's comical. Enjoy your son's league and calm down, you'll have a coronary.

Please tell us where your kid and others are going. Very few go pro. More and more college spots are being taken by foreign players. Unless you're a consistent starter on a top DA team you might as well play club and high school. Sure it had drawbacks but most kids enjoy it. Shocking I know. You can also play other sports.

There are still plenty of roster spots available for domestic players (both club and DA players). Also, why would one play club and high school if one enjoys (and prefers) DA?

Not many DA players are going pro right out of DA, very few are ready at age 18 to compete against pro athletes, so most graduates have ended up playing in college in the past. Unfortunately, this has been a dead end for many, as the development trajectory they had while in the DA flat lines once they hit college.

I feel like the people on the top of the US soccer pyramid, although a little slow, are starting to realize this and we'll start seeing more DA players on newly formed reserve teams or USL teams (maybe even extended age DA teams) so they can continue developing through those critical years. Just because you're not playing on a top DA team (can't really say any of our local DA teams could be called this) doesn't mean you should throw all your ambition and hard work out the window to play high school soccer. Opportunities have come unexpectedly for many pro players, but you still have to put yourself in the right spot to take advantage when something comes along. For high school boys, that would be the DA, even if it's not the strongest team.

I'm not the poster you replied to but generally speaking he is correct. I go to as many div.1 area games as possible and I have seen many local DAP games also over the past few years. There is no one currently on any of the three local 17/18 teams (SC, Bolts, Revs) that would get significant minutes for any of the teams Div.1 teams I've seen. (I'm convinced the NT players placed by the Revs are more politics than anything else). Amadu was as good as any player the Revs have produced in awhile and he was invisible against Lowell the other night. ZH was signed as a home grown player for the Revs and he wasn't in Amadu's class of player. He wouldn't play a minute for Lowell or Dartmouth. (Tells you something about the Revs). The Revs have one 15 year year old who has tremendous potential. But they have done nothing to develop him since he started for them a couple years ago. I am progressively disheartened with DAP and US soccer in general. And obviously so are college coaches because they are going elsewhere for their talent.

And so the alternative is play high school soccer? Look at the DA commits, they are going to Division 1 colleges.

Several recent revs, bolts and SC players are at D1 schools. I think JR already has two offers. DJ too. WJ from bolts u18 is going to Duke . A player from Seacoast u18 committed to Harvard. One of the Lowell players you watched last night played for revs academy . Amadu did ok last night. Didn't play that much but had a nice shot on goal and helped create some chances. As a side note, I thought Lowell was the better team and should have won.

Plenty of former "local" DA players are getting "significant minutes" on D1 teams, including CA at UNH, MR at Syracuse, CS at Harvard, 4 Oakwood players starting at Providence, 2 Beachside players starting at Notre Dame, and FP at Coastal Carolina.

It's year 2 with the U14 team and these players are still not part of the starting 1X. Don't understand why their parents put up with it. Better off playing for their high schools. Experiment with the Revs should be considered over.
