The coaches only have enough bandwidth to support the development of a handful of young players. You'd think that the Academy would have the capacity and be a place for all players to improve, but that is clearly not the case.

The coaches only focused on a few players this season, thereby wasting the time of every other player.

Why only choose one or two players to "play up"? Why only choose 3 or 4 players to never come off the field? Why is it so difficult to allow all the players time to play and/or show where they play best, so that everyone can improve?

It's not about improvement for everybody. It's about identifying the couple of highest ceiling players (NT, Pro prospect). Why is this so difficult for people to understand?

I can't answer the questions above, but for some perspective my B is a u-little on a decent regional team and I see the same sort of "philosophy" for development. 3-4 players who are rarely subbed. Limited play time for everyone but the "starting" lineup, which never varies game to game. Not much rotation in players playing certain positions. It's gotten to the point where even in drills in practice and warmups, kids are segregated into different groups of starters and non-starters. Is there some disparity in skill across the team? Yes, but only from the very top to very bottom of the roster. The middle, where the majority of players are on that team, are mostly interchangeable.

I've seen other coaches with much better philosophies regarding developing players. Basically the "if I selected them for my team, they will play as much as everyone else and have the opportunity to develop like everyone else" vs. the philosophy of only focusing on the top end of the roster and ignoring the rest, treating them as interchangeable role players. Maybe for MLS DAP, that makes sense given their mission is to find and develop the few who can become pros, but we're talking u-little NEP teams.

Pro prosect at 13? You really are completely out of your mind. Where will they hide him next year when scoring zero goals, repeatedly giving the ball away and not playing any defense will matter?

Serious question for the U13 DA parents

Now that the fall season is complete, are you happy?
Is you're soon happy with your decision?

Very happy knowing he is in a better place where he gets to face the best competition in the northeast and at some showcase tournaments. Maybe his goal is to try get expose to the pro environment or maybe go to college on a free ride or partial scholarship. Whatever he chooses that is obvious his decision. As a parent, my job is to give him those opportunities. If he is in a good environment and a happy place he will succeed. If not at least he tried. Hope I answer your question. Might not be what you wanted to hear but hey everyone has their own
              opinions.

              Cheers

all good but let's kill that free ride dream right here and now. free rides in men's soccer are as rare as unicorns. even partials can be downright anemic. supporting your kid is all good but expecting a return is foolish. keep that in mind and if it works out then it's a bonus. in the meantime just enjoy the ride because, like you said, he should be driving

Time for you to Leave Troll. Your team must really suck to continue on this thread with your constant negative Banter. What a loser.

I'm so happy for you! Heard Carson NT training was great. I'm sure he was a real standout.
Congratulations, another big step towards that pro contract!

Very happy counting the close to $10k we will save this year in fees, travel and equipment. Revs rock!

Admittedly, my son could not make a DAP team. Good player, good athlete, not at that level, but not far off.
I tallied up our soccer expenditures for 2016 and it comes to about $5,000. No air travel and just one w/e in a hotel.
That's fall (6 days of play), spring (6 days), winter (2.5 days), and summer (1 day plus week of camp).
Not dreaming of scholarships, he simply loves playing and it keeps him busy.

I don't get it- if they are only interested in a few players, why not just have "alliances" for ages up to U14 (U15)? Why spend all that money on players they are simply not interested in developing or even acknowledging? Why not keep the players in their home clubs where they can actually play soccer and be happy rather than paying to them to be miserable on their teams? Or, if you are going to invest money, why put all your eggs in one basket? Seems so ludicrous and illogical to me.

Revs are only in DA because they have to be. They spend the minimal amount needed, nothing more. If your kid is truly talented wait to bring him to Revs when recruiting ramps up. He'll be better trained and the Revs will readily cut a longer term member for someone new and shiny
