But if we were starting from scratch, and I were soccer dictator, I would have a couple different cutoffs in the landscape. It would mitigate RAE, and allow more kids to get what they personally want out of the sport.

MLS and NWSL academies would use BY. Their fees would be heavily subsidized by pro teams and US Soccer, so they retain the best of the best athletes even if poor. Teams would be limited in number, because only the very best should be here (kids who expect to have a career in soccer). They would be the only leagues with regular national travel and any international play. The travel and practice schedule would of course be heavy enough that it may negatively impact your grades at school. But that's OK because the only people in this league should be aspiring pros and national team players. Of course, the ones who don't make it to the pros might settle for college teams.

Below that, throw in the towel for all the other leagues and give it all to ECNL. They would use GY. These are players who still care about school grades and having fun. Add some "national" teams to the mix so they travel over a smaller area for league play. They would be "national" in that they play one national tournament per year. The expectation at this tier would be that only the top half of each team are future D1 players. Below that, make RL a promotion/relegation system all the way down. Everyone is in, pay your dues to ECNL, they are now in charge. Sorry everyone else. Consolidate. Again, these kids just want to have fun, not be a pro. But many of them would like to be good high school players.

Prior to U13, everyone is in this new RL (pre-ECNL-RL), but there are two age groups for each class: GY1 8/1-1/31 and GY2 2/1-7/31. This combats RAE in the way that every study suggests (even though no one ever listens to them). There is no promo/rel before U13 to lessen the need to win. Recognize winners for the competitive spirit, but clubs get to select their flight.

US Soccer wants to grow the game, have better national teams, and better serve underprivileged kids. I think this would do all that. Why treat all the kids like they want to be a pro when 99% don't want to be? But offer the pro path to the 1% that want it. The age cutoff should match the goal of your team/league.
    Wait there are NWSL academies?

There are some currently playing in ECNL/GA. I've seen rumors that more will come and they would eventually have their own league.

Every soccer coach hopeful should major in communications. Because they are all terrible at it.

Taken to an extreme, if you put them in a 10x10 ft box, the only way to advance the ball is either quick dribbling or ramming through people. If the field is too small, kids also just start taking shots from the half line. Lots of 7v7 teams have 1-2 kids doing everything, because they can cover the whole field, and the rest standing around.
OP here. Correct this is my point. Too many fields are just sideways on a 9v9 field cannot be anymore than 40 yards long. The result is small passing lanes and 1-2 players can cover the entire field as CM and be in on literally every play. To teach the game we have to create an environment for passing and possession. Otherwise it’s no different than the 80’s. I’m sorry others didn’t arrive at this on there on their own, but hopefully this helps.

My kid is one of those CM’s so I feel comfortable pointing out this flaw that we are exploiting.

Right, I shouldn't have said "rumors." This is a totally different topic, but I've just seen the case made that more NWSL academies, and another league for them, could come in the future if they became economically viable. That's a big "if." It probably requires more revenue for NWSL and higher transfer fees for women's soccer in Europe. Eliminating the draft and creating a homegrown player rule would give them a little more benefit from an academy. MLS could buy NWSL and then there would more likely be additional girls academies. Also, some of the current NWSL academies were lured into existence by the creation of the GDA. So if there were a girls' youth league more focused on a pro pathway again, more NWSL academies might pop up. So no rumors that this is happening, just the case made that it probably would happen down the road if pro women's soccer continues to grow, or if money for it came from outside NWSL.

So you think these academies are going to fly over the country to play each other? Probably not. So then they will play clubs in their area. Essentially you are now back to ecnl. Academies aren’t happening ever

This is an issue that will be decided by US Club Soccer, in conjunction with other associations, in November most likely.
so nothing is set in stone.

That the change is a possibility for fall 25.

Anything is ‘possible’. But is it ‘probable’?

Yes. Why vote if it’s a long shot.
