That happens here sometimes too. That's why, like Israel, the FDA just approved a booster for medically fragile people and older people will probably get them this fall. We knew going in there was uncertainty as to how long the vaccines would give you protections. There was also always the possibility that mutations would start to outsmart the vaccines. The more cases that are out there the better the odds the virus mutates. So yeah, unvaccinated people here in the US are contributing to the problem.
