WASHINGTON — One of the federal government’s main efforts to push Americans to prepare for climate threats is in question after the Senate majority leader’s office objected to a plan to adjust flood insurance rates.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency was preparing to announce new rates for federal flood insurance on April 1, so that the prices people pay would more accurately reflect the risks they face. The change would very likely help reduce Americans’ vulnerability to floods and hurricanes by discouraging construction in high-risk areas. But it would also increase insurance costs for some households, making it a tough sell politically.

Last week, the office of Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the Democratic majority leader, pushed back on the changes, according to several people familiar with the discussion. That pushback has caused FEMA to pause the rollout of the new rates

Why does The NY Times Sunday edition have no articles on the border crisis? I mean, the federal govt said it was a crisis, people are dying, but Biden can just shut down the media and hide it?

Because it is not important. There are far more pressing matters within NYC, America, and the world. Sorry to burst your bubble. They aren’t Fox News who dredges up some local news to a world audience about a guy stopping a gas station robbery with his concealed carry. Your sense of what matters is warped. See a doctor please.

Strange I just read my Sunday edition - hard copy, old habits die hard and reading the weekend edition is still a favorite tradition - and right there on pages 16 and 17 are two full pages covering it. Plus all the links someone posted above. I've seen not at all flattering stories on CNN, MSNBC and the network news. So yeah, it's getting plenty of coverage. It just doesn't dominate 24 hours a day like on FOX, which has little else to talk about.

They only cover non-sense stories these days. Particularly on days when the GOP congressman/women are not voting for bills (like the recent stimulus) that would help put food on the table for most unemployed MAGA die hards. Protecting them from the truth is job #1. They do this by running inflammatory pieces and opinion shows with little fact. Rupert Murdock and his billionaire buddies love it because they control the right wing sheeple now with ease. Like Pavlov’s dog they tune in religiously for their daily fix of rage. Little do the sheeple know that they have become far less employable because no client, coworker, or boss wants to hear their stories of lunacy. We all feel sorry for them and hope they someday can recover from this disease.

I bet there’s even a Cuomo story in there too. Yes there is far more balanced coverage in traditional media than the right wing cabal would like you to realize. But first you actually have to read it and not let someone else tell you want it says. Free you mind and you will free your soul.

Admit though. It would have been front page, not page 16 if trump was president. And Nope...cuomo story either. Not the electronic version

Ps....you should subscribe like I do and get out of the Stone ages. No ink on your hands.

The NYT has been very harsh against Cuomo.

Not the poster - I do both because I also like reading the weekend paper version. During the week and on the go it's electronic. They often have pieces that first appear online then later in print and vice a versa. Just in the last few days there have been these pieces on Cuomo - and they're not favorable. The first two were on Friday. It's the weekend and perhaps nothing has changed in 36 hours? There's a thought

She swears it is a hate crime, but no evidence. Sad, but not a lot of Irish or Italian or French or even Mexican rub and tug places. Sorry, maybe they need to find another line of work.

US Rep. Judy Chu said Sunday that the mass killings at Atlanta massage parlors that left eight people dead — including six Asian women — should be classified as a hate crime.

Chu, a California Democrat of Chinese descent, said on ABC”s “This Week” that she “strongly” believes that accused gunman Robert Aaron Long targeted Asians during the bloody killing spree Tuesday.

“This is a 21-year-old white male who chose as his first victim a business that was called Young’s Asian massage,” Chu said. “Then he drove for 27 miles to another spot where he hit two more Asian spas.

Rumor has it he was seen fleeing the crime scene yelling “I’m Rick James bitch!”

It's definitely a hate crime against women. Harder to prove it's an Asian hate crime since as said most of those place are owned by Asians and employee Asian women. Coincidence? Or hate? The FBI is digging into his history and will learn more.

The shooter belonged to a super religious church that banned practically everything but especially premarital sex, so called "impure thoughts", certainly homosexuality. The guy felt even worse about his fantasies because of his religious upbringing. If only someone had counseled him and told him his feelings were normal, or he'd had some therapy, maybe none of this would have happened.

He is beyond therapy. If you do what he did, laying on a couch and talking to someone isn’t going to make you better.

That said, it wasn’t a hate crime against Asians. That is just in vogue right now, so everyone wants to make it the case.

Which brings me to these “spas”. They aren’t spas. Either legalize prostitution or bust these spas. Personally, if someone wants to have their Johnson rubbed with oil and blow off some steam, I really don’t see a problem with it. Regulate these places and make sure the women are of the age of consent and tax them.

So Trump made the front page for his border story because Steven Miller thought it was going to be a cruel trick to separate kids from their families when they all look a like and don’t speak English. If that wasn’t enough, Trump illegally misappropriated funds away from FEMA and the military to build the border wall that Mexico was supposed to pay for. Meanwhile FEMA and the military are left less prepared for their next engagements. This is why Trump made the front page. Every move was either overtly illegal or immoral. Biden can’t really do much about the flood of immigrants right now. Steven Miller meanwhile would be launching dead cow carcasses over the wall to spread disease amongst them. He would make the front page.
