      You are confused
Herd immunity means that you have reduced the paths for the virus to spread to a point where it no longer has a real growth rate and therefore has limited impact and can be contained.

Herd immunity does NOT mean eradicate.

      Eradication is impossible

Measles vaccine does not work on me. I have had it 5 times. Which means I can get measles.
MMR vaccine worked for everyone else in my house. So if I get measles, they won’t.

Measles pop up with people who don't get vaccinated, an issue that has grown in the last several years with certain groups who are anti vaxxers. It's highly contagious but because the vast majority of the population is vaccinated new cases don't spread far. The ones most vulnerable are young children who haven't been able to get vaccinated yet. Some adults do need to get a booster because the first several years of vaccines weren't as good as later ones.

          It is not a myth

"Herd immunity is a form of immunity that occurs when the vaccination of a significant portion of a population (or herd) provides a measure of protection for individuals who have not developed immunity.’

It arises when a high percentage of the population is protected through vaccination against a virus or bacteria, making it difficult for a disease to spread because there are so few susceptible people left to infect.

This can effectively stop the spread of disease in the community. It is particularly crucial for protecting people who cannot be vaccinated. These include children who are too young to be vaccinated, people with immune system problems, and those who are too ill to receive vaccines (such as some cancer patients).

The proportion of the population which must be immunised in order to achieve herd immunity varies for each disease but the underlying idea is simple: once enough people are protected, they help to protect vulnerable members of their communities by reducing the spread of the disease.

However, when immunisation rates fall, herd immunity can break down leading to an increase in the number of new cases." https://www.vaccinestoday.eu/stories...herd-immunity/

If more people got vacciated for the flu we'd hardly have any cases, but a typical year only about 50% get vaccinated. That's not enough for the estimated 70-80% needed

Herd immunity also isn't the same thing as eradication. Some diseases like flu or Covid can never be eradicated because the virus mutates too frequently, and the lower likelihood of dying means you'll never get 100% vaccinated. Others like polio can be/have been. No one ever wants to see polio in their lifetimes and the vaccine is nearly 100% effective.

Remember when they closed schools for polio?
            No?
            Because they didn’t.
They just went on with life.
Polio was prolific in the 1950’s yet they went on with life.

Actually some did when there were local outbreaks. Some did for the 1918 pandemic also. The polio vaccine started distribution in 1955.

"This is not the first time education has been disrupted in the U.S. – nor the first time that educators have harnessed remote learning. In 1937, the Chicago school system used radio to teach children during a polio outbreak, demonstrating how technology can be used in a time of crisis.

I’ve documented outbreaks of scarlet fever, measles, diphtheria, influenza and other communicable illnesses that regularly closed schools before vaccines greatly reduced childhood diseases.

Responses varied from district to district. During the 1918-19 influenza pandemic, school boards held special meetings to debate the best way to proceed. Chicago, New York and New Haven were among the cities that never closed, using medical inspection and individual quarantine instead, while other schools shuttered for up to 15 weeks."

                A hand full of schools?
How about whole states like California?
                Or multiple states?
This year was the first year EVER that CT didn’t play a HS football season.
                Just let that sink in.
                100+ years
                But everything for safety
                Killing kids for safety.

Anyone know why we let measles kill >100,000 children per year, possibly more children than covid19 will ever kill?

Biden want’s to spend $1 billion on vaccine advertising
Who the frick does not know about vaccine’s
I guess it will be a propaganda campaign to try to convince the public it is “safe”
                    What a waste.
Every time I hear a PSA about Covid it just confirms my belief that we are China & propaganda is supreme over truth.
It is a waste of $1 billion

Yeah. Look at how many people die from small pox every year.

That is eradication. Same with polio and some other diseases.

Herd immunity is getting a large enough portion of the population protected (75% or so) so that disease outbreaks don't spread far/burn out fast because such a large # has protections (either from exposure or vaccination)

"We" do no such thing. The vast, vast majority of kids in the US get vaccinated for measles. Same in other developed nations. Many children in very poor countries are not.

I like the defense put forward by Trump's attorneys to his impeachment -- yes it is stupidly inane. Rudy must have had a hand in writing it. Sounds like Trump will have fun when he testifies under oath. Hey -- has Trump spoken with the dead Officer's family yet?
