Not the OP but you people really don't know how to use your brains. CDC is a good source for this data (although it tends to lag and I don't fully trust how they're presenting it). However, there is no better source.

Here is a CDC assessment of excess deaths. Granted these are estimates and they admit to that, however, this is where I lose trust in the people within CDC presenting this data. Example, look at the threshold for excess (orange line) deaths in the graph. It naturally should be increasing each year, as it does, except for 2020.

In August, CDC took down the MMWR data base. This is the weekly break down of death by cause and location. When they restored access in November they had revised 2018 & 2019 cause of deaths for dementia & Alzheimer’s. They increased those by more then 10%. Why you ask. Because they want to make this year’s lockdown deaths in nursing homes, dementia & Alzheimer’s appear to be less severe then they truly are. They are trying to hide lockdown deaths to make them appear as normal. Nursing home policies were a real failure.

Well - Boxing Day.

Thanks to substantially reduced reporting on the holiday and now flowing to the weekend, only 1.134 died Christmas Day. 91,523 diagnosed with covid. Trump has 400,000 deaths locked. He will need to work harder doing nothing if he wants to hit 500,000. But, he a bomb blowing up in Nashville did not interrupt his doing nothing so I think we are safe in assuming he will continue being good at nothing. 332,000 dead Americans in 10 months. Thanks Trump.

He did take the time to rage tweet that poor "ex-model" (quotes intentional) Melania never had a Vogue magazine cover like Michelle Obama had - on Christmas Day no less, as tens of thousands mourn the loss of loved ones or worry about other loved ones in the hospital with covid. Mr. Compassion right there. His Christmas message was nauseating - talking about god as if he had a religious molecule in his body.

Part of that stems from a WH order this summer for states to report data directly to the so called task force rather than the CDC. No doubt CDC head Redfield is incompetent and the agency has lost talented staff, but the WH is trying to control the data narrative. Its going to take a good deal of detective work next year to sort this out

Just like they did after the election right? Deaths will slow down because the elderly are getting vaccinated first but cases will remain high because most of us won't see the vaccine for months. The elderly make up a high portion of deaths been proportionally not many cases. Between the slow roll out, covod fatigue and half the population saying they won't get it cases won't drop anything like a stone.

Trump is(was) in charge of CDC. He installed his cronies to force changes. Finally they went to far and resigned on their own. Also CDC director got a real backbone after Trump's election loss so real news is finally coming out.

No. These changes are trying to make the data looks worse. The CDC site has been a disaster for years. It what you’d expect from a government run agency.

This was interesting. States were sandbagging deaths over the summer to report them closer to the election. Trump tried to put a stop to it. Did not have much effect however. What it did do was forced the cdc to catch up. Their lag for death reporting should be 4-6 weeks. Over the summer it was 10-12 weeks. This forced CDC to catch up.
