Yes CA numbers are not good. Thankfully they are way better than Trump states.

Take N and S Dakota - both are doing way worse than Cal. Cal. had about 139,000 new cases last week and 884 deaths. N Dak had 4278 new cases and 111 deaths. S Dakota was a bit worse off with 6205 new cases and 149 deaths. If we used N Dakota’s percentages and applied them to Cal. - instead of 139,000 new cases Cal would have had 237,000. And, instead of 884 deaths it would have been 5925 deaths. Thankfully Cal. is not pretending that the virus does not exist, or alternatively, is not dangerous.

We now have more cases in than in March-April when people werent wearing masks. This is all seasonal. It comes when it comes, where it comes, and nothing you do will change that.

As of October numbers, Cali has 50% higher unemployment then FL.
How many more in Cali are suffering from poverty vs FL?
Cali has kids going hungry because they are not in school. That is not happening at the same level in FL because they have much higher in person school.
Open up the state to care for the kids welfare if for no other reason.
BTW the deaths for FL are from the summer, they are still death certificate matching from the summer wave. CA is going to be lower for deaths per because A. They are being hit now & B the are the largest state and law of large numbers will always minimize the impact.

Strictest mandates and shutdowns in the country seem to be working well.

So what's your point? That we should abandon safety protocols because this insidious virus keeps finding ways to spread itself? How bad would it be if these protocols were not in place? How much more overwhelmed would the hospitals and first responders be? Is that a scenario you find acceptable?

I don't understand the logic some of you have here. The science on this is ever clearer and there are clear ways to mitigate virus spread. Most of this depends on our individual behaviors. You have to decide if you want to do what small part you can, by working with these protocols, or be more at risk to yourself and others by challenging them.

The shutdowns are terrible and it hurts my heart to see how elements of our economy are being ravaged, either by the virus itself or the fight to stop it. But again, I ask you, what alternative do we have here?

So you tell us why there is a difference then. None of these numbers alone tell us anything, without understanding the contextual elements of each geographic situation.

Why are the numbers in LA County as they are? Why are the numbers in Florida as they are?

How about there is little anyone can do no matter how stupid the politicians are and what they think they can accomplish without widescale infections or vaccinations in densely populated (generally urban) areas. This virus must simply run its course on its own or via vaccinations until a sufficient percentage of the world's population has developed an immunity to it ... or it will NEVER go away.

Which God? I think there have been something like 3000 recorded Gods in man's history.
Do you reject 2,999 of them to believe in just one?

If so, then you only reject one more God than an atheist does.

I saw this pointed out recently in an interview between an athiest and Catholic.

The other point made was even more interesting. If everything you know and believe about God were to simply disappear and 1000 years passed, the God of that time in the future, as defined and believed in by the faithful folk in mankind, is almost certain to be different than how God is defined and interpreted today. What would the Bible look like then?

But if you took all the science books and burned them all, a millennium from now those science books would be pretty much the same content as they contain now. Science is fact and these facts don't change.

Both faith and science have their own lanes to drive in.....God isn't going to save your ass here. Science will.
