It's not the majority of cases but it happens in high enough numbers that health officials are very concerned. Heart and lung damage is well documented. We also don't know how long term is "long term". A year from now? A lifetime? Could it be like Chicken Pox and come back in a different manifestation later (shingles). Even some athletes who were in fantastic shape struggle with symptoms well after they're supposedly over it.
