I think it will be the opposite. Already struggling districts would love to save some money by not running sports

Not the poster but football isn't really "a thing" in some of the more affluent towns. Popularity of other sports, snobbery, desire to protect their kids brains....

Yes YOUTH sports, not HS sports. They will follow CIAC guidelines for that. The announcement also seemed to imply it could be temporary.

Meanwhile, posters may have missed the New Have did cancel fall sports last Friday. https://www.nhregister.com/news/arti...s-15484501.php

Cities with greater population density and more people of color (who have much greater negative outcomes) have good reason to be concerned. No doubt finances play a role as well.

Kids will be protesting at CIAC today. They're meeting with the Board of Health this afternoon. I hope they announced before the weekend. Stop torturing kids and coaches and pull the trigger, one way or the other.

Name one "affluent" town in CT where football isn't a thing.

                    Sounds ominous

I find it disturbing that schools with their resources and connection to professionals are stopping sports but town run leagues are still on. You are leaving the health of our communities to volunteers with no resources. Kudos to Danbury. If CIAC decides to postpone sports, the governor better follow suit for youth sports throughout the state.
In our district, they are chomping at the bit to get a u19 league going. Already planning in anticipation of CIAC decision. Disgusting that their good intentions are based in wanting to give kids a place to play while putting everybody in danger.

If HS sports are cancelled - either by towns or the state - look to see more youth sports get cancelled as well. Just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. Use of school and even town fields by outside groups will also be a big issue if youth sports are allowed. Local residents either won't want them or will cry "unfair."

Schools can point to CIAC's ruling as a reason to proceed. Our neighboring states are also going ahead, providing another support point.

Schools could also do similar - move the higher risk ones and keep the rest - but man those football supporters are loud, at least they are in our town. "Unfair!"
