An issue worth doing something about

I have spoken with several coaches this year and all seem to be frustrated by the number of games that have had to be rescheduled due to conflicts with stadium facilities (football). The athletic director for our school district told me that our Principal should contact FHSAA with this concern and then the District AD would follow up with a letter of his own. He also mentioned that FHSAA does not really care to hear from the coaches and that the Principals voices are the ones they listen to.

Over the last four years (since the school start dates have been adjusted) the scheduling conflicts with football stadium facilities early in the soccer season has gotten worse. Athletic directors and football coaches do not want the soccer lines on their fields until after football season is over, the fields are used for football practice at many schools and as such soccer games cannot be scheduled that have early start times, and many players (who are playing football, swimming, or running cross country) are missing over one quarter of the soccer matches for the season if their sport qualifies for the playoffs. This is a direct result of the adjustment of the seasons when schools were starting in early August, and then the change to a later start date mandated by the State Legislators. Preseason soccer for the girls now starts with three weeks of regular season football games left the regular season soccer games start the following week.

Moving the soccer season start date to coincide with the basketball start dates would have the first game after the regular season games for football have been completed and would create issues only at schools that were still in the football playoffs. It would also eliminate conflicts with all swimmers and cross country runners except those who qualify beyond the regional tournaments.

I spoke with our referee assignor and she is at her wits end with the changes that have been made this season. I know our schedule has been impacted more than any years in the past, and several other soccer coaches have called me expressing their frustration this season as well.

Have your principal petition FHSAA for this change!

I think it is fine the way it is. If they HS season runs any longer then it will have an impact on club teams getting ready for State Cup and there will be NO time off opportunity for players. Doesn't region cup start next weekend for HS age players? If a HS coach really cared about the kids they would not be complaining.

FOPOTBALL FIRST ( the money maker $$$ ) and soccer comes second . This is the way it will always be with high school in the states .

This is because "pointy football" coaches and players are so stupid and easily confused.

High School soccer does not matter. It doesn't matter to the school, it doesn't matter to the administrators, it doesn't matter to the students, and it doesn't matter to the good players.
The only ones who seem to care about High School soccer is the High School coaches. Just look at the attendance at these games. It is terrible, the kids who want to play will play club soccer there are plenty of clubs so even marginal players can have a team to play on.

Obviously you (or your child) play at a school that doesn't have a good soccer program. There are plenty of schools (especially in our area) with a tradition of success and support from the school and student body. Our games' regular attendance fills 1/2 the stadium (even when we play schools that stink - maybe yours) and we fill the stadium for games that matter.

At which school do they on a regular basis fill 1/2 the stadium ? That's a lie and I hear Pinellas is really looking into and may be forced to drop high school soccer next year ?????????? Time will tell MOFO !

What is the attendance like at the club soccer games in the area? Gimme a break. The same parents are on the sidelines for club that are in the stadiums for HS. Unless you are in a Final of a tournament or showcase, no one watches.

Good point. Plus to go to a HS game means that people would meet their club practice many times they are at the same time.
Friday nights are no good cause kids need to rest for their games on SAT. and parents need a break.

You need to grow up. HS sports are essentially important integration of your child's academic teen life formation. What are you doing in HS soccer blog anyway?

And what I mean by integration of your child's academic teen life formation is "balance" between sport/getting fit while learning at the same time same place same teens who shares same goals everyday in their alma mater school. Whether your kids may or may not play college, playing HS sports are equally valuable to all kids concern as you hear adult parents sharing experiences to families and friends.

Ask the kids and 75% of them will tell you they could care less about their high school soccer team and if club soccer did not give them off at that time they would not even play high school soccer . It's a joke and most high school admins could care less about high school soccer too . Academics first , club soccer second and high school soccer comes in at dead last .
