University of Miami WSOC Coach fired

Kind of out of the blue. Anyone know why?

It could not be for on-field performance. They have improved under him.

Well he was crazy on the sidelines but I can't believe they'd care enough to fire him for that.

Something smells fishy here. If it was performance they would have fired him at the end of the season. This is prime recruiting season, which makes it a very odd time to fire the coach without there being somekind of "other" circumstance.

Agree, and it's not like recruiting violations are a big issue in non-revenue sports. So it gives rise to off the field issues as a possibility.

                FAU's Baker should have waited.

The guys was a "Johnson"! I will say he crossed the line with a player and not in a sexual way. He needs anger management from what I have been told.

Which one of those little charmers was the accuser? Several nasty girls and parents on that team. He was a jerk but they were as bad. I'm not saying I don't believe it - but I don't take the word of some of those girls without checking.

What does this mean to the 2013 signed class and the 2014 verbal commitments?

They don't have to adhere to their NLI agreements....they can go elsewhere (and play) if they want - don't have to sit out at all.

That must be a special arrangement then.

Totally incorrect. 2013 Signed NCAA letters are guaranteed. They have nothing to do with the coach. 2014 and later verbals are out the window. New coach can honor or not. Completely up to them.

Obviously the school did check or he wouldn't have been fired. As a coach, your a role-model to your athletes. He definitely wasn't that role model and my guess, is that the sudden firing suggests it was a behavior related.

Personally, I'm not surprised. My daughter and I went for a visit last summer, and I thought the head coach was the biggest, self-absorbed #@%. He was incredibly arrogant and didn't want me in the room when he was talked to my daughter about playing for Univ. of Miami.

I heard him say to her through a crack in the door, "Who's making the decision to play? You or your parents? (Ummm...who's paying the bills for her to attend Univ. of Miami, if you're not giving her a full scholarship?).

A few other parents I know whose daughter's also visited Univ. of Miami felt the same way about him. I normally don't go off on coaches, but I really disliked this coach, from the first moment I met him.
