Abandon all hope all ye who enter...
It is sad, but across the board for years it seems everyone echoes in the remarks that have been posted here. The majority of those of us remaining on this team, still have 2-3 years to agonize with this coach (unless the promises made (when we all complained) that the coaching contracts would not be renewed February 2013 is actually realized). We sit amongst ourselves and cry. It is too late to transfer without giving up on our dream to play and also, for many of us on scholarship, it would impose a financial hardship. Some of our upperclassmen have foregone additional eligibility to play and some have quit, and our best upperclassmen are gone. Virtually all of our most talented upperclasswomen are gone, except one who is treated as a 5th string member by the coaches although she is one of our very best in all respects. She is abused because she is not afraid of them. We just found out we have to read Pat Lencioni's "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable," which many of us already read in the past, but it is sacrilegious coming from this coach and his staff. They are the shining examples of each of the dysfunctions: (1) absence of trust (he could not trust us to be accountable for ourselves-he thinks women are weak, but gets rid of the stronger ones, so he can perpetuate his belief), (2) fear of conflict (he sends moles out amongst us to gather information, instead of facing us and giving us a chance to discuss our views), (3) lack of commitment (he treats us as disposable razor blades, forgetting the commitment he made to us when he recruited us), (4)avoidance of accountablility (it's always our own fault; he never accepts his part or his staff's part for anything), (5) inattention to results (he clearly does not see how his formula has and will continue to fail over and over again--insanity is doing the same thing over and over again the same way and expecting different results...if that's not ignoring results then what is?). We hope that our AD, who says he really cares and we hear will have them on a very tight leash from here to February '13, will act prompter than we thought last November because this is unbearable and we feel so sad and guilty to not be able to do anything to help all those he has damaged, including ourselves and our own self-respect.
