Abandon all hope all ye who enter...

It is sad, but across the board for years it seems everyone echoes in the remarks that have been posted here. The majority of those of us remaining on this team, still have 2-3 years to agonize with this coach (unless the promises made (when we all complained) that the coaching contracts would not be renewed February 2013 is actually realized). We sit amongst ourselves and cry. It is too late to transfer without giving up on our dream to play and also, for many of us on scholarship, it would impose a financial hardship. Some of our upperclassmen have foregone additional eligibility to play and some have quit, and our best upperclassmen are gone. Virtually all of our most talented upperclasswomen are gone, except one who is treated as a 5th string member by the coaches although she is one of our very best in all respects. She is abused because she is not afraid of them. We just found out we have to read Pat Lencioni's "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable," which many of us already read in the past, but it is sacrilegious coming from this coach and his staff. They are the shining examples of each of the dysfunctions: (1) absence of trust (he could not trust us to be accountable for ourselves-he thinks women are weak, but gets rid of the stronger ones, so he can perpetuate his belief), (2) fear of conflict (he sends moles out amongst us to gather information, instead of facing us and giving us a chance to discuss our views), (3) lack of commitment (he treats us as disposable razor blades, forgetting the commitment he made to us when he recruited us), (4)avoidance of accountablility (it's always our own fault; he never accepts his part or his staff's part for anything), (5) inattention to results (he clearly does not see how his formula has and will continue to fail over and over again--insanity is doing the same thing over and over again the same way and expecting different results...if that's not ignoring results then what is?). We hope that our AD, who says he really cares and we hear will have them on a very tight leash from here to February '13, will act prompter than we thought last November because this is unbearable and we feel so sad and guilty to not be able to do anything to help all those he has damaged, including ourselves and our own self-respect.

      2. Poor ethics - consistent mention of harassing behavior by all coaches involved. Tearing young women down, robbing them of any confidence they may have entered the school with.
      3. Mention of recruiting violations - 8 or 12 incoming Freshman coming from one PDA team formerly coached by the Asst. coaches. Meetings with kids and parents at venues that are clear violations of NCAA recruiting rules.

It is a shame that the Athletic department has done nothing to address this issue. Instead the AD focuses his attention only one one goal: becoming the head of the big east. These coaches have done everything to justify severance yet the AD and the school have sat on their hands --what a shame.

TO ALL PROSPECTIVE STUDENT/ATHLETES INTERESTED IN PLAYING WOMENS SOCCER AT RUTGERS ---DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!THE CURRENT COACHING STAFF WILL RUIN YOU.
Here is a better warning. SELECT A COLLEGE BASED UPON EDUCATION AND NOT SOCCER!!!!

Get off your duffs parents , stop complaining, and start fighting as hard for your girls as they are playing for their team! If the AD doesn't do something, go to the next higher up, and don't let them sweet talk you. My heart aches for those freshman who are so confident this year because of all their time playing, knowing that next year they will be sitting on the bench just like all their upper classmen friends are doing this year. It is a pattern!!! Something here doesn't pass the smell test! The sad part of all this is that the girls are all excellent players. Fight parents, fight!!!

Anyone who doesn't connect the lines between PDA and the Rutgers coaches and their camps has his head in the sand. MONEY!! Any parent out there even thinking about sending their daughter there, DON'T!!! It might sound great saying that you are going to play for Rutgers, but most of those girls have not even played a minute this season. Somebody should contact the NCAA about the coaches verbal abuse to the girls!

A sad day in the State of RU Athletics

In reviewing all of the posts here, we are struck by how the alleged misogynist treatment, discrimination, and harrassment against players of the Rutgers Women's Soccer team has been dismissed and ignored by the administration, even though the majority of the players that have made it through the program have brought this up in their exit interviews and frequently having given fair notice many times before that. Is there one single positive exit interview that could defend the program? Scott Minto, as quoted in Bloomberg article on April 4, 2013, says, "With players on year-to-year scholarships and afraid to speak out about improper coaching behavior, it’s the responsibility of administrators such as Pernetti and Barchi to protect them." In light of the events surrounding the Rutgers Athletics this week, does video have to be produced and shared with the media in order for the proper measures to be taken to protect these young women from this point forward at least? Is it the case that the women's soccer program is not one that merits the school's or the media's attention? Isn't that indicative of gender bias in and of itself?

Sadly, this is true at alot of universities, large and small -- not just Rutgers. Don't just accept an offer somewhere without watching some practice sessions/games--see the style of play, how the team interacts with each other and with the coaches. You'll learn more that way than listening to the coach's b.s.
Remember, you'll spend most of your time with your team/coaches.

Maybe it's time for some of the team girls at Rutgers to bring the coach's behavior to the AD's attention. I imagine after the Basketball incident, they would have low tolerance for this type of behavior from any coach in any sport.

This is a funny comment knowing who the AD is and the history there. Rutgers is a joke. I feel sorry for the athletes and students of this school because if you are on the outside looking in, it's not a school that is respected and it is tainted now. Consistent bad decisions by the AD's and administration turning a blind eye and not dealing with things properly. Poor hiring decisions and it just continues. If the Big Ten had delayed their decision on expansion, Rutgers would be stuck in the American Athletic Conference. It would be UCONN or Cinn in that spot. I'm sure the Big Ten is kicking themselves now. But they have to brush it under the carpet, they have egg all over their face now.

                          college coach

I've been looking for a college coaching job for some time now. I haven't gotten many interivews. I am an excellent coach and really care about the players. Anyone know a college that is looking for a good coach with excellent credentials?

                            Current Situation?

It's been a while since this thread was posted and it raises some serious concerns for those considering this school. Any updates on the current situation?
