    On to HS Fall Soccer

The kids are sore from hell week. Cuts have been made. Some are crying, but your kid has made varsity. What are the best earlier barometers that the kid will see any meaningful playing time once the conference season starts? What do we look for in the scrimmages in the week ahead to temper our expectations?

Fciac girls don’t cry. They are not sore either since they have been playing soccer and working out all summer. I knew ccc West was soft, thanks for confirming it.

        “Sore from Hell Week”?????
Has your kid never played on a competitive team before? Some double sessions of running and soccer training is far from anything out of the ordinary for most high level athletes.

The best part of the HS season is looking at the soccer pictures in the local paper. Usually it’s a picture of a 50/50 ball with a caption os “So and so battles opponent for the ball.” Invariably, one girl is very intent on playing the ball while the other girl(s) are ignoring the ball completely and lining up the girl to send her into next week.

Your kid may get some PT in scrimmages but don't count it for regular games. Beyond that it's impossible to predict because it depends on the player and the roster. One thing that is certain is that soon enough there will be several injuries which gives newbies more chances

Thanks you insufferable, pompous club parent .... Or GDA in which case you only made that team because so many others chose to play HS (and yours would not have made varsity). And next we will hear how awful HS soccer is (even though yoiur kid and all of her club friend's are on the team) and how glad you are HS is over because, despite your daughter and all of her club friend's immense talent their team missed the state tournament and then theblament iver how she and her superstar little buddies did not get any individual post season accolades. Douche!

                  - Does kid start
                  - Are they first sub off the bench
                  - What’s the competition like at position
                  - what position (attackers and midfielder more likely to play. Keeper or defense least likely)

More importantly is that since you seem a little ahocked that she made it that she is probably not ready.

How many players should a coach take on varsity? Our HS took a huge roster? Any thoughts?

He's covering for the inevitable injuries that will come soon enough. Many are around 22-26 or so. It also means there are some he thinks he's interested in and would rather them train with V than JV. If that's the case they should train with V but play on JV whenever possible. Sitting on the V bench won't help them. Most V coaches won't take chances with untried underclassmen until they can prove themselves
